Currently, the Tolkien family is sueing the studio behind the creation of the 75,000,000-dollar blockbuster Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Seriously.

Personally, I believe that the tolkien family should have received some "credit" or something for being one of the most influential families in the world. But surely, only J.R.R and his son Christopher are or have been the only ones who have actually changed/edited/created the books.

Why should Peter Jackson give a million bucks to the family just because they were related to a famous guy?

This reminds of the Sacksville-Bagginses in FOTR.

It would be funny if it didn’t have the potential to kill the Hobbit movie.

Well, it stated that Christopher is taking part in the law-suit. I don’t know what the agreements were, but I don’t think we should feel sorry for the Tolkien family. To push Tolkien in order to finish the trilogy, Tolkien arranged that he would get half the profit for every copy sold.....However I can imagine that you are somewhat annoyed if other turned incredible rich because of the work of your (grand)father, I know I would.
I also think New Line Cinema shoud be grateful that Mr Tolkien himself has past away years ago. I have read letters written by him that he send to producers with loads of ambition, because he wanted thing done differently...he was sooooo picky, with great eye for detail.
Lets just hope they will sort thing out and they will appreciate the fans of the movies........ Homage Tolkien Homage

Hhhmmm...it sounds like the Tolkien family are making the same accusations against New Line that Peter Jackson did. I think New Line are a greedy bunch, trying to keep as much money for themselves as they can. Although I would dearly love to see a Hobbit movie, I’m on the Tolkien family’s side with this one. I hope that they can get it all sorted out so that PJ can get to work on The Hobbit!

I thought they were going after newline not PJ.
They’re doing the same thing PJ did though.
This might castrate the Hobbit films Evil or Very Mad

I hate people sometimes.

Lawsuits can be extremely messy sometimes.

like the woman who sued McDonald’s for a million bucks, just for a liquid burn from hot coffee.

I’m not saying that the Tolkien Family is just plain stupid, but this is still ridiculous.

It’s like, suing Bill Gates because he has a lot of money.

I don’t know.... the way I read it the Tolkien estate is sueing New Line for money that is owed them from the Lord of the Rings movies. As in: New Line hasn’t paid them the amount or percentage that was agreed upon. If that’s the case then the Tolkiens definitely should be sueing. I mean I really really really want to see the Hobbit movies done soon, but I can’t blame the Tolkien estate for trying to get what was agreed upon.

Oh and I don’t think PJ is involved in any way. Only in the fact that he also had to sue New Line to get paid. It really creates a bad image for New Line.

FingolfinFinwe, that’s exactly what I was trying to say in my above post. That’s what it looks like to me too.
