Actually, NB, I think you’re massively overestimating that number....
Yeah sorry Nb but thats a crap arguement, youre gonna have to do better than vastly exaggerating points to convince me your parents aren’t the ones with a problem but everyone else.
Edit: Lem0n, while we’re at it... how ’bad’ is "bloody" in Britain, anyway? Or is that just an American stereotype that Brits use the word, and you actually don’t? I never actually heard it while I was over there.
It is used quite a lot. It isn’t what you would call a profanity more of a cheeky word. Its hard to describe. Its not sterotypical, its used often enough to be a normal word in this context.
I dont think you’d be censored for it really but everyone knows its used in cicrumstances where you’d say thats crap or a similar expression of mild "cursing" like he’s bloody useless etc... Interestingly cursing isnt a word we use in England to describe it. We say swearing and thats it. You’d find the majority of Englsih wouldnt say bloody is swearing but you might get a fair few that say it is. Depends. |

I can see it now: every single Harry Potter film in Great Britian merits a hearty R-rating for the slew of "bloodys." British moms go on a war march against J.K. Rowling, whilst Dumbledore is discovered to be a pedophile and Rowling admits to creating the Voldemort character around Sir Winston Churchill.

So, saying, "bloody hell" is comparatively identical to saying, "damn?" according to you, lem0n?
It seems as this debate could possibly go over to "linguistic relativism" if we’re not careful. A person could say, "well if it’s not bad in Europe I guess it’s OK because they don’t know what I mean. Well, most Europeans." My point is that some curse/swear words, DEFINETELY at least the f-word, are bad regardless of the context of how they are used. (except, of course, educational purposes, e.g. explaining to one of those Europeans what the meaning of the word is...not recommended) |

Popcorn is not gooey like fat, and also not crunchy like potato chips, but crispy like lettuce which makes it a healthy snack. |

I dont know mate do you mean in your context or mine? Like you said its relative.
But saying bloody hell is not an issue. Its vey mild and is the least of our society’s concerns over language with so many vulgar terms rolling around.
Damn over here isnt a swear word a curse or anything its just a word. You can say it on television before the water shed. Its absolutely no big deal. I dont know how much of a big deal it is over there or how much you guys just seem to take it dead serious. I cant say. |
