A cool idea.

How exatcly is hyperspace supposed to work?
None of the Star Wars Novels or weapons and technology books realy explain it.
Any one know?

Hyperspace is a theoretically possible alternate dimension where reality is bent. You’re supposedly able to locate folds in hyperspace and then go through the folds (like Rand does with the Pattern in the Wheel of Time, but that’s fantasy) like a needle going through a piece of folded fabric.

Basically, a big plot device to get people where they need to be instantly. But it might be real...who knows?

I ran the numbers on some variable speeds in my new FTL idea, and I could get a ship from Earth to Proxima Centauri (the nearest extra-system star) in a fraction of a second.

Haha. That’s pretty amazing. And for a "plot device" it’s excellent. Wink

Sweet!

I love people who can get all this stuff with technology and everything. I gave up on SF writing because I knew next to nothing about anything that way, except for Star Wars "science". I moved to fantasy. Yay! Make your own rules! Wink

A group of scientists, 1 in MN and 1 group in Chicago I believe have discovered how to make atoms "warp"... I’m talking between the two labs in an underground path in a tenth of a second. Not even kidding.

Now it’s awhile before it can be used on molecules, and even further until humans... but that’s pretty sweet if you ask me.

Well, see the universe doesn’t work that way. The speed of particles isn’t just some "variable" that you can toggle with. There is a limit to the speed of any particle. They would become untrackable after a certain point, and unstable. And since differant particles would take differant levels of energy to create a similar speed, even if you could "trick" them into going "lightspeed" each individual particle would react differantly to the energy used to speed it up, therefore causing all particles that make up a coherent piece of matter to break apart in several trillion particles traveling at varied speeds.

Let’s say we were to put Hazael in this "reactor." When we fired it up and used a level of energy on him to trick his "particles" into traveling "FTL." Each piece of him would begin moving at differant speeds, there by destroying his own existence. And even if you were able to, through troubleshooting or definite mathematical equations, able to take an object and move the object’s particles to a speed "FTL," the particles would break apart as atoms in this universe would rub against each individual particle and they would, slowly at first, break away from the object. But, by the time you travel several billion light-years, the object’s particles could be in two differant galaxys as some particles would travel infinately faster than others. Light-speed and beyond is impossible to do.

lol. but for a science fiction universe, it’s "perfect." See, they also thought these problems would arise, but through many lucky surprises everything went according to plan.

Wink

And I would never use Hazael as fuel. He would just clog up my intake valves and it would be a sticky icky mess.
