The Dow dropped 400 points today. The decline was the worst loss for the Dow since September 17, 2001, the first day that the U.S. markets were open after 9-11. What is your opinion on this issue?

The market goes on cycles. The point of the game is to figure out how to calculate the cycles. Those with put options are making a killing right now. (Put option = Ability to sell stock at a certain price, use this to buy when the market hits rock bottom and turn around and sell at the put price.)

So, all those who made bad decisions, invested in stock or calls, I’m sorry for you. But those who invested in puts are making a killing. So it doesn’t matter whether the market goes up or down, it matters how YOU invested in the market and whether your predictions paid off or not.

So personally, since I didn’t invest, I don’t care. As long as the markets moving significantly in one direction or another, I’m fine. Once it starts standing still, then I’ll be worried.

Please add another option to the poll, because although I don’t care about this, I do care about the stock market and the economy.

I pretty much agree with you; my father was just regretting the fact that he didn’t have any puts. Razz

Now that concerns me. Any drop in the value of the dollar is bad. Really bad.

But how can gold fall in value at the same time? Unless other major world currencies increased in value at a faster rate then the dollar, which also actually increased in value, just not as rapidly, then gold wouldn’t fall as the dollar fell.

I wonder how the Euro did... Think

Kills me to say this, because I have vehemently opposed the EU, but the Euro may be the best investment out there...

EDIT: Confirmed suspicions. The Euro did better than the dollar. What could you expect?

Seriously, this sort of thing only exposes the US’s ineffectiveness in the global economy. The fact that we do not back our currency with gold will kill us eventually. The fact that Dow Jones dropped 400 points because of Chinese Stock, means only ever more that China controls the world’s economy. Also, you dont need stock or know someone who has stock to be concerned about this (ahem, poll...).

Concerning, for sure. The news about the dollar is even more alarming.

But I’m not overly worried. The economy goes through many bumps. Some are minor, some are much more severe. But it’s been going steadily upwards since 9/11, and I don’t think this is a sign it’s all about to come crashing down. Just a larger-than-usual pothole, that’s all.

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

I disagree. It shows that we are moving into a world economy that’s fluctuates even more than the national economy. This drop could have been triggered by any significant money-holding entity. However, I agree that the US is no longer the leading economic giant. The leading economic giant in the world today is the European Union, followed closely by the US and Japan. China holds a substantial portion of the world’s wealth (duh, its the largest country on earth!), but does not control the world’s economy.

Nice to finally meet the famed tOO.
