A few reasons:
1. The forums have grown. We’re getting more activity, in more different areas, than before.
2. There’s a new project cooking that will require some extra help from the mod staff to maintain.
3. I prefer to spread out the mundane tasks of moving threads, deleting spam, etc. so that moderators aren’t overwhelmed with work. That way they have more time to participate in discussions themselves! |

Ooh!
It’s good to see some fresh blood in the management, as well. Not that anything was wrong with the existing mods, you understand. |

And how exactly the Moderators come around? Are they people you know (you Cobra, of course...), or are they recruited among the lines of avid fans? Are they volunteers? Do they know you in person? Gee, many questions about this one! Won’t even bother asking about this new project of yours... Just waiting! |

I believe I played a few tournament games with Merrick_Hale, back in the day. Other than that, I don’t know these guys personally.
When I think the Cobra Cards forums could use some new moderators, I send PMs to a few people who I think stand out as leaders of our player community. I ask them if they’d like to help out as a moderator, and they generally say yes. It’s really that simple.
There are a lot of reasons why I might consider someone to be a "leader of our player community." Here are a few examples:
- BibFortuna25 has a real depth of knowledge about LOTR TCG, and has demonstrated a willingness to answer questions and help others learn the game.
- Phazanzar always seems to have organization on the brain, which is ideal in a moderator. It was Phazanzar who originally took the initiative to start up a "Deck Archive" here at Cobra Cards.
- La_Sin_Grail is a frequent Magic: the Gathering poster who always provides helpful reviews and sound strategy advice. He’s always trying to help new players, and always thinking of ways to help our MTG community grow.
If there’s an underlying question here -- "What can I do to become a moderator?" -- the answer is simply to act like you’re one already! Review articles and decks. Start new discussion topics. Welcome new members and answer their questions. Try to maintain good spelling, grammar, and organization (as well as good strategy!) in your posts. Anything that shows me you’ll make a good forum leader will you a more likely moderator candidate. |

| Bib and Phaz are AWESOME choices for Mods. I don’t frequent the M:TG section, but I assume La_Sin is too. |

Yep, Grail’s an outstanding MTG player. Some may think he’s a little harsh on his comments sometimes, but I like this style, so that’s fine by me. Also, I can easily see the diference between "direct" and "rude".
But very good judgement on mods, Cobra, since I visit both areas, I know them all, they ARE good! |
