I decided to start this thread to discuss the, IMHO, flawed idea of Democracy, that is government run by the people . So what are your thoughts on Democracy? Is it a better form of government then a Republic, or Dictatorship? Also any thoughts on the Electoral college?
and what about exporting democracy?

Please post and stay on topic.
Thanks Cool

I think that Democracy is definitely a flawed idea...I do lean more towards Republic. An ideal democracy is actually anarchy, and the general public is fairly stupid when it comes to most political affairs. Keep the politics in the hands of the politicians.

So give the power to the power-hungry liars? Politicians are corrupt and evil.

I’m in favor for Dictatorships... but it would automately depend on the person. There r evil dictators and there are bad ones

I;’ve already made my self clear on several occasions that i see the flaws in it and those I do no like it. The American governement will die soon... perhaps when a 3rd Bush gets elected as comander in chief... which will happen since america has amnesia

i said i like dictatorships... maybe cause i do.... maybe cause i’ve been drinking tonight

Dictatorships would work only if someone like me was running it (uncorruptable).

I would *like* to see the electoral college removed, so that the people would actually get to vote on who entered office.

And, no matter how many idiot presidents we "elect", America will be around for a good long while (in all honesty, who’s could really hurt us?).

Democracy is extremely flawed. Dictatorship is a viable option, although many dictators were rathr harsh (i.e. Stalin). It would be great if another Cyrus the Great came alogn; we all get conquered, but we all live in a form of peace because we are still allowed to worship in any way we choose. The again, worl peace will not occur until the Second Coming, so that option is out. A republic, however, is what I see as the best option for government.
I had to put something here.

And they’re the only ones? If we protect ourselves from government, we end up with the tyranny of the mob. Republic is one of the best options for government. After all, look how long Rome lasted.

Thats an unfair generalization. Abe Lincoln? George Washington? Marcus Aurelius? Keep in mind, although none are from this day and age, all of them were politicians and I would defy you to say that any one of them were evil.

The general puplic has a right to send in their own leader and it is a right of U.S. citizens to elect even idiots(not implying anthing). So unless you want a revolution or some equivilent lets stick with Democracy. shall we.

If you don’t like the way things work, just try and get people to vote for a communism, you’re in the minority.
