In case you guys haven’t heard there has been a huge Ice and snow storm in the Midwest.
Here are some news stories 8 dead in Midwest storm

Many without power

Anyway we lost power for only two hours last night at my house.
We got our power back quick, since me town has its own power plant.

But over 250,000 Iowans are now without power.
Anway last night after we got power, I was on my computer in the office posting on CC and playing some AoE II when all of a sudden I heard a tremendous CRACK and then a huge thud on the side of our house, and a tree branch hit the office window.
A huge part of a tree out front had fallen over our two card driveway and onto the side of our house.
So my dad and i went down to the front door, opened it, and this is what we saw.

We opened our garage door and all these branches sprang in

So we started lopping off all the branches that were inside our garage and touching our house. Here is another view from the garage.

We then called it a night at about 10 PM.
This morning we went outside, and here is how it looked then

Thankfully our neighbors helped us a whole lot, We borrowed two chainsaws and got it pretty well cleaned up.
We got about 8 inches of snow. Very wet and heavy.
I was snowblowing a neighbors drive and walk with a two stage snowblower and even with that monster I had a very hard time, took me over an hour to do what is normally a 30 minute job.

Anyway here is one of the tree in our backyard.
Normally its branches are 10 feet above the ground.
Not anymore!

And here are a ton of icicles underneath our back deck.
.
And finally last but not least my rabbits outdoor snow covered cage. I had a hard time finding the little guy this morning.
Hope you enjoyed this wintery report from Iowa.

Shocked

Reminds me of the big ice storm here a couple years back. We had a huge power outage and had to run our house of a generator for over 2 weeks. Here in Kansas, snow is a rarity, so nobody had a clue how to handle an ice storm. Interestingly, the hardware stores were all sold out of generators soon after... Think

We got a bad storm, but we’re near the Oklahoma border and got no snow.

Yeah, that sounds like what a lot of Iowans, Nebraskans, and Illinoisans will have to do.
i just heard on the radio that there are still well over 250,00 people without power, and that many won’t get any for two weeks!
I did have fun taking those pics though.

Yeah, we were in it too. Not too bad, though - we got almost no snow, but we’ve got a big tree right outside my window.

Just some minor lights flashing, and the cable went out for us

Only one piece hit the house, and it was just leaning up against the window. At least two others were as tall as the house...

Those pictures are basically what it was like at our house. Fortunatly we had already cut down alot of our old trees. The snow is really good for packing.

You guys are lucky. We didn’t get ANY snow at all. Just rain.

Yeah, we ended up with roughly the same amount of ice, though, although I didn’t see any snow or rain falling. Just ice falling off the trees.

We got an unexpected bonus snowfall. I went to bed Saturday night hearing that we’d have mostly rain and a little freezing rain and MAYBE a dusting of snow, then I wake up and WHAM, four inches. We probably had half a foot by the time it was all done. My wife and I made a pretty big snowman to celebrate. Very Happy

I know, half a foot’s nothing, but for snow lovers like us in THIS area, we’ll take anything we can get!

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!
