As mod of the RP Forum, I’ve seen that in the time period that I was gone, the forums became pretty disorganized and dead. My question is this:

Who’s interested in a (nearly) complete revamp of the RP forum?

This means basically starting from scratch, and redesigning. If the general majority of people likes this idea, I’ll start a new brainstorming thread on how we can improve the 2nd draft of the RP forums.

As another mod of the RP forums, I’d love to see such a change!

What do you have in mind?

Not much yet. That’s what brainstorming groups are for, but something much more organized and much more attractive. Possibly making more use of the dice engine as well.

I noticed that the RPG forum is dead...and I tried to revive it, there’s one active RPG going and it seems to be dying...

Secrets of the South is already dead.

I’m all for Revamping the RPG forum if we can keep Freestyle RP-ing. Diced is cool, but freestyle is cool to.

OK. Let’s start brainstorming then. What are some ways we can improve the RP forum based on the state it is in now?

Well, since no one else replied, I decided to make a thread about the system I’m planning on implementing here, to keep characters more balanced, keep threads to a smaller limit and to reward frequent/good posters, as well as to add some flavor to the game.
I’m thinking on implementing a system of points (we could just call them Experience Points, as they do in regular RPGs), with wich players will be able to "buy" stuff (and I mean LOTS of stuff) for their characters. I’ll post the main ideas now, and if this gets positive feedback, I’m developing the system more, and will come up with the actual numbers, but it’ll take me some time.

-A member will be able to have ONE character, and he will be able to have other ones once he hit certain requirements (I’m thinking on number of participations in RPGs, and a high number for that matter). So, the most RPGs a member takes part in, the most characters he will be allowed to have. These kind of points will receive a DIFFERENT name.
-There will be stickied, locked threads, just for the moderators to mess with them. One will contain the full list of items available (which WILL be expanded from time to time, price adjusting BEING a possibility); another will contain "skills"; and the other one will contain the number of RPGs a particular member has taken part on. Oh, yes, and one of them will have the ACTIVE characters from each member (just name and "operator" is fine, preferrably divided in one post per member, in alphabetical order), showing how many exp. points each character have (if this is not possible, then showing how many points total a player have, and he’ll be able to spend on any character).
-From now on, characters will only be able to take place in ONE thread at a time.
-Threads will have a fixed time spam, so a character won’t be "locked" in a "dead" thread forever.
-Thread ideas CAN be sent to mods, but ONLY MODS will be able to post them (and, OF COURSE< posting a thread shouldn’t give’em ANY points).
-No more than 3 (this number can go up or down) threads will be running at the same time, so players WILL be able to take place in all of them.
-The system of joining threads should change, since threads should have a maximum number of players, and a joining deadline (before it starts). Once the introductive thread had been posted, those who met the requirements would PM a moderator, stating which character will be joining. Then, moderators will, after the deadline, post Participants at the end of the thread, including the names of those who sent their PMs on time AND met the requirements.

Now, on to the point system:
I’ve discussed a bit on character number, and the specific points (hand-counted by the moderators), so now I’ll discuss the "big picture", the Exp. point system!

-Points will be awarded per number of characters on a post, THE FIRST TIME A POST IS MADE! Editing it WON’T get you more points. Either post with quality, or accept the consequences.
-Posts WILL have a maximum size, and a reduced one, except from the first one, introducing the thread.
-Moderators WILL be able to delete posts, which will take away all the points awarded for it. Players should receive a PM about the reason for the deletion.
-Spelling errors and awful writing errors (like using the same word 3 times in 2 sentences, or such) will count against the player’s exp. points. Should a moderator find a post worth taking points away (I’ll work on numbers later), the post itself should be locked (so it won’t be edited anymore) and a message posted by the mod, so other players will learn "what is wrong".
-Misuse of the abilities or skills a character have would ALSO subtract points from him. You have a character, play it as it is. Actually, I think that, in order to make members READ what they’re posting in advance, the "Edit" function shouldn’t be active AT ALL, except for mods.
-Members will NOT be allowed to double-post. If you make a post, you have to wait until someone makes a new post, to make another.

Now, a bit on how the new characters will be handled.

-There will be a stickied, LOCKED thread for "character profiles". Profiles should be submited to moderators in advance, and THEY will post it there, again, one post per member (they can organize it later if more are added), sorted alphabetically.
-Profiles will contain the name, race (initially, fixed, able to expand later) and age of a character, and NOTHING MORE until it is approved (you will know, it will be posted in the Profiles thread, and the mods will PM you about its inclusion).
-New characters will then have a set amount of points to spend, in equipments and skills.
-When you choose what you’re buying, send a PM to a mod containing each item/skill you buy, and he’ll subtract the points from the point thread, posting the items/skilss on your profile. This will also help to keep profiles cleaner, standardized.
-There will be RULES on what your skills allow you to do, so if you buy the first level of "swordplay" (or whatever name it gets later), it will mean you can fight ONE ENEMY AT A TIME, AND you can ONLY kill ONE MEDIUM-SIZE enemy per post (this can be changed later, to better OR worst). It will evolve as you buy more ranks. Rules WILL be displayed in the skill description.
-Points WILL be given once a thread is over, depending on the difficulty of the thread, AND the time it took.

What else will points do?

-Let you make new characters.
-Let your characters have different races.
-Net you nice abilities and different equipments, so your character will be truly "unique".
-Benefit frequent posters and those who review their posts before hitting the "submit" button, since certain threads would be only for Trolls, or only for characters with X points (Or X levels. if points by characters are not a possibility, then moderators would also display the LEVEL of each character on its profile, in a simple system, one level per thread he participates).
-Make the RPG’ing experience more interesting and hooking!

Well, these are just preliminary ideas, so I’d like to hear feedback from you guys, so, vote on the poll (yes, I know there’s no poll, just state if you like the idea or not, me and the mods will tally the votes, until EVERYONE on the RPG group has voted!), and state what do you think (questions, doubts, suggestions, etc...)!

PS: Oh, yes, since I’m NOT a moderator, if this idea kicks in, I’ll have to elect one of you to bother, like, A LOT when implementing the system and lists, etc, so I guess I’ll either go with WKBC or EL, probably EL, since I can talk to him on AIM!

Here is Felipe’s idea. Take the time to read through it. If you are in favor, let me know, and EL and I will get to work redoing the entire forum.

As I said before, people didn’t like the idea very much... Although, the Free-Form RPG is almost dead anyway...
