Alright, so I’ve already got a bajillion books to read as it is, but I was wondering what (aside from LotR and et cetera) everyone else liked.
(And, lest this turn into one of those infamous "favorite" topics that just have people posting with no discussion, please give some reasons what you like about the book[s]....)
I’m actually in the middle of War and Peace, right now. It’s surprisingly good. Sorta like a cross between Gods and Generals and Pride and Prejudice (Except better than the latter....) Tolstoy’s philosophy of historical events is pretty interesting. |

The Bible. G.A Henty, LotR. World Book Encyclopedia.
The Left Behind Series. John Bunyan’s stuff (Pilgrim’s Progress, The Holy War).
How Then Should We Live, by Francis Schaffer, The Communist Manifesto (had to read it for school, barely got out of reading Mein Kampf). Oh yeah, Dante’s Inferno is really...interesting. Homer’s Illiad and Odysseus.
A bunch of current events stuff. And then the torture I had to do for school:
Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein (talk about messed up), Tale of Two Cities (maybe not torture, that is one of the most awesome book ever written). Moorish Spain.
And one of my favorites, The Call of the Wild by Jack London White Fang didn’t hold my interest like The Call of the Wild.
Barely scratched the surface.
Before I read LotR, The Call of the Wild was my favorite book. The crazy thing is, it stands against almost everything I believe in, but the way it is written is brilliant. I can appreciate good literature, even though it may be completely wrong. |

You didn’t like Frankenstein? I thought it was really good.
If you liked Iliad and Odyssey, you should read Virgil’s Aeneid. It has the Sack of Troy and the Trojan Horse in it, and Aeneas’ journey to Italy.
Bible aside, my absolute favorite book of all time is either Beowulf or Njal’s Saga. I’m sorta into the archaic Northern European literature. Especially the Dark Ages-era stuff like Beowulf and the Norse (AKA Viking) lit. |

Tortured for his Faith. amazing true story of torture under communist rule.
The light and the glory. excellent book of american history.
fahrenheit 451. absolutely incredible. sort of sci-fi, but it is absolutely incredable. Ray bradbury predicted so much of the futer in this book that it’s scary. this book really makes you think.
there are more, but i can’t think now.

The Bible.
I’ve read The Chronicles of Narnia 6 times (all 7 books), and I’ve read a lot of well-known classics, such as Moby Dick, The Last of the Mohicans, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, The Man in the Iron Mask, etc.
Read some Peretti / Dekker stuff, too, like House, Thr3e, The Oath, Showdown, Saint, etc.
And don’t forget the magazines... Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, and Fur-Fish-Game. |

Well...I’ll break the mold a little and start some discussion. And since AP was right above me...

Yeah, always a classic. Read that one.

Very nice books. I love classics! Ever read stuff like The Count of Monte Cristo? Excellent (though long) book!

Mmm...I need to read some Dekker/Peretti. I’ve heard Thr3e is awesome. I mean, they made it into a movie, so it should be, right? (and I need to see the movie, too)

Fur-what? Heh, never heard of it. Hmm...don’t get into magazines much.
Anyway, I read this three-part book called The Lord of the Rings. It’s a kinda obscure book, but have any of you heard of it, by any chance?
Lemme see...I’ve read so many books, it’s not funny. The Wheel of Time, the first two books of A Song of Ice and Fire, yeah, lots of fiction. Chesterton’s Father Brown stories...now those are brilliant! Oh, and I’m currently reading The Philosophy of Tolkien by Peter Kreeft. Fascinating stuff! |

The Bible.
LOTR
Chronicles of Narnia
Any Star Wars book by Timothy Zahn (the 7 book thrawn series is the man!)
Or Aaron Allston his wraith squadron books were funny and cool.
My favorite Christian Fiction is the Lam among the Stars series by Chris Walley. the first is so-so, the second is cool and the third is awesome. I can’t wait for the fourth.
Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis is so-so.
As much as I hate to say it I kinda like Eragon/eldest (of course I like LOTR and SW so I kinda have too ) |
