I got braces today. And they are, no pun intended, a pain in the mouth.
I hate my orthodontist. Has anybody here ever had braces? |

I had them and it was not fun, having them glued on or having them pulled off! I wore it for 18 months and then had a removable brace for 6 months, but I forget to wear it for like 2 months and so then it wouldnt fit in my mouth!!
I was 15 at the time, but fortunately it did not ruin my childhood like my friend Geoff who had to wear a full head retainer. |

Don’t worry, GT. They get better. Then you go back to the orthodontist, and they make the braces even worse than before.
Did they build up two huge piles of glue on your back molars? When I had my braces, they "built up" my molars, AKA made it so that I only had two points of contact between my upper and lower jaws.
Impossible to chew, I’m tellin’ ya. So I went home and scrubbed them with the toothbrush until I wore them down just enough to survive without reverting to an all-liquid diet. |

| I had a herbst for my overbite. It doesn’t feel pretty. When I could eat, just AD I couldn’t chew anything and could open my mouth about a half inch. Just when it got better I went back in and they tightened them down again. |

Wow, when I was a teenager, I had braces for 4 years! Yeah, my teeth were that bad! It was horrible torture! I dreaded the ortho visits. Spacers were awful, it felt like having a log stuck in my teeth. Some of my teeth had to be turned, slowly twisted into the right place, not fun.
But now, I feel that it was all worth it. It’s great to smile and not feel embarrassed about my teeth. When I would complain about the pain (usually after a good tightening session with the orthodontist), my mother would always say, "Beauty hurts." She was right. |

I have expanders in, and they just hooked them up to that. |

I had braces for 2.5 years at least. My bite was horrible, and now it looks awesome.
Some parts were real painful, so I can vouch for GT. The parts I hated were:
1. "twisty wires". These they would twist on the brackets, the purpose to pull all the brackets close together. not fun.
2. Poking. The long wire that goes through all the brackets poked my cheeck way in the back. I actually still have a scar (like a hole) where it would jab and dig in.
3. The shredding. Yep, during the first couple weeks my mouth inside was shredded, and even bled a bit.
But it all pays off. |

My teeth are somewhat crooked, but not enough to need braces. If I were to straighten them, I’d need to get some sort of smaller device to straighten them, but I’m not going to since the only crooked part is that one of my upper teeth is crooked. |
