Anyone read these books? I’ve only read one or two, but really enjoyed them. I have friends who are totally addicted, and read all of the 50+ books in the series. Shocked

I’ve read a few.

They were pretty good, but after awhile some of the ones I read had the same plot, just different time period. I really liked the first one I read, the second one was good, the third... I forget whether the third was good or not. I tend to think it was, especially since the goodguys were Anglo-Saxons vs Normans.

IMHO, they’re not the best books in the world, and I’m not even going to try to read all 50; I’ve already got a billion other things to read. But I’ll read one every now and then.

(Plus, how can you not love those nifty hardback versions they come in nowadays?) Razz

Other than completely boring 3 chapter intros, the middle of the book is pretty good. And then the guy falls in love, wins the girl, gets married and they live happily ever after.

But yeah, he’s good. I recommend Beric the Briton, The Young Carthaginian, For The Temple, The Dragon and the Raven and By Right of Conquest. Those are my favorites (I’ve read about 30).

The Dragon and the Raven is good, I liked Winning his Spurs,
St. Bartholomew’s Eve, When London Burned, By England’s Aid, Agincourt,
Under Drake’s Flag, Beric the Briton and In the Reign of Terror.
I’m currently reading, For the Temple. Very Happy I have a friend who owns 50+ Henty
books that his Mom bought at antique shops. Most of them are a almost a hundred years old.

They’re stand-alone historical fiction. The ones I’ve read tend to follow the pattern:
People get invaded.
Kid joins the military
They lose their battles
He meets some girl
They lose the war
He gets married

Good writing, but sometimes they get predictable after a while.

His publication dates (according to wikipedia) run from 1869 (All But Lost) to 1872 (The Young Franc-Tireurs, and Their Adventure in the Franco-Prussian War) and a couple undated ones.
So yeah, they’re really old.

"In Freedom’s Cause" is the one I’m most familiar with...and follows that pattern exactly.

Any particular ones, AD, that don’t follow the generic predicticality?
