That actually not my opinion.
just something I have heard. Apperently, according to the theory, BUsh blew up the world trade center, for reasons unknown.

good point. I think we should get a definition of democracy we can all agree on before we continue with any of this crazy discussion. I’ll put some out there:
government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
-dictionary.com
a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections

If our government was truely a democracy, all important issues would be based not on what the views of the government are, but based on the opinions of the civilians. So take abortion for example. If your going to do something about that, the president shouldn’t act based on his irrationality or his religious beliefs, he should leave it open to what the majority wants.
But thats not how it is. I know of one president that did such a thing and I’m forgetting who it was... i think reagan or nixon... not sure a friend of mine was talking about it the other day and I didn’t pay attention.
Anyway that is a true democracy. Politicains lie to get votes. People think their views are being well represented but lately they have been pushed aside for irrational, selfish actions. |

| Democracy isn’t flawed... the electoral college is, but the actual government has been performing great over the last couple hundred years. There’s a reason USA is still in the #1 seat. |

That statement is flawed and biased. If you look we have numbers resembling that of the great depression. Do you see how much poverty exists in today’s society? Inflation and low minimum wage? People in this country are suffering to get through each second. Senior citizens health care? It seems some slut can go out and get pregnant and have help for years but retired people have little to no health care and barely can afford their medication. We are number one, you just seem to be one of the lucky ones.
@SoP: Let me guess, your a republican.
Odd that so many people on this forum are republicans. I know most magic players are pot smoking, poker playing, democrats but why would LoTR players be heavily republican? It doesn’t make sense.... perhaps you are all rich and have been given life on a silver platter... it would make the most sense.
The flaw isn’t so much in the electorail college, it’s people. The politicians are the ones most flawed. The electorial college does have its problems and has a way of electing commanders in chief that the majority of the country does not want. But at the same time, many Democrats don’t even vote. Republican’s problems are that they do vote but they vote on one issue (abortion and gays were the ones last time) or they vote for a prinicple rather than a person (they’d rather have a republican in the office even if it means having the worse canidate). So if people were less flawed, the electorial college would be less flawed... not to mention human’s ability to keep a tally and hole punch the correct hole or even to make an easy ballot. Not to mention the flaws of the politicians after they get in office. |

Democrats ftw.
And our poverty rates aren’t all that bad, we have a high percentage of people who are schooled, and overall people are in good condition. I live in bumsville, MN where they’re are all kinds of poor folk, but they’re still better off than living in most other countries of the world.
America IS number one. We’re still the only named "powerhouse" in the world. Sure China is gaining on the title, but I haven’t heard or read anything stating they’ve reached the status yet.
If you think we have it bad, move somewhere else. Stop trying to over-dramatize it. American’s, even the poor... I’d even venture to say those living on the streets, are better off here than a vast majority of the world.
Don’t worry about inflation, now that all the dumbasses have figured out republicans suck something terrible, we’ll get a Democrat in to clean up George’s mess. Similiar to what Clinton had to do... if you remember correctly. |

I really don’t think we need a democrat right now, as odd as it sounds coming from me. Instead, we need a good republican. If we get a democrat they might try to give everyone free health care like Canada and at this point it will ruin our economy even more and it would be terrible. So either get a good republican or a democrat that doesn’t want to give EVERYONE free health care.
As far as China goes, i heard a statistic that said if we enlisted every citizen into the army and fought china, we’d still be out numbered by a great deal. I tried to look it up but ran short. I also was going to ask my history-buff friend but he is away right now. When he told me this at dinner one day i made a LoTR joke about "On the 3rd day on the sunrise, we looked to the east. Over the mountain, on horses, came Gandalf and the Iraq army we’ve been training"
And why does everyone say "if you don’t like it move" it’s the same kind of philosophy as "if your not with us your against us". I hate the current leaders of our government, I hate how the poor and the elderly are being treated, etc, etc. It’s no reason to move. There are too many things in America that I like that I couldn’t leave because of... mainly Tornado Alley.
Oh and ummmm..... DEMOCRATS FTW |
