Brad DeFruiter and Scott Gaeta are now the two pony show called the Decipher TCG Studio. There were rumors at Gencon that Brad will be doing all the design for Star Trek and Lord of the Rings in addition to all his other responsibilities (Shipping promos, customer service, updating lists, giving out information on new sets etc.) Brad was one of the people responsible for many of the busted cards that came out of the Mount Doom set (Mordor Fiend anybody) so I don’t think that it bodes well for the game overall. There was also talk that design might go to a players’ committee like it did with Star Wars, but If that happens, expect there to be a lot of overpowered cards since people design to make their favorite cultures the best.

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz

Most of them were fired at one point or another in 2005 (two main layoffs occurred in January 2005 and May 2005), several of them left for greener pastures. At Decipher’s peak, their company was around 70 employees strong if I remember correctly and a good number of them were in the Game Studio portion of the company (Decipher has a media publishing and advertising division as well). At the peak, Decipher’s game studio had a dedicated art department, a slew of designers, 3 brand managers, 1 volunteer coordinator, several marketing managers (including one for Europe and one for the US/North America), a couple of people for Organized play and at least one convention manager.

They had several active game lines at their peak including:
Lord of the Rings TCG
Star Trek TCG
Megaman TCG
.Hack//Enemy TCG
Star Trek RPG
Lord of the Rings RPG

They also tried but failed to launch a couple of other game lines such as:
WARS TCG (Gencon 04 was the first release of the game)
Beyblade TCG (Horrible game that was very little more than Uno)

I would consider D’s Heyday to be right around the Launch of the WARS TCG back in 2004. They had lots of active DAgents, thriving communities of players, respected products, no major product slips to that date (except for uncontrollable circumstances such as major storms) and a very bright future IF their WARS TCG took off as the Star Wars TCG replacement. Decipher basically put most of their eggs for the future of the company in one basket (WARS TCG since there was no licensing cost and they could develop the property as they saw fit) and had the rest of their eggs stolen from them by their CFO in an embezzlement scheme. The seeds of destruction were sown when Decipher was at its peak and it all came crashing down a little less than four months later.

How sad. Do you know for sure how long Decipher is going to be making LotR TCG?

Frankly, I was a little surprised that Hunters actually printed. I know that it was a bit cynical of me, but I was indeed surprised. There was some mention of us not getting any additional RoS spoilers since "it isn’t the time for that". That leads me to suspect that the LotR game is probably not going to see any more cards in the near future. That shouldn’t prevent us from playing with the cards that we have and enjoying the game as it is. A game isn’t dead until the last players stop playing it.
