Here’s an old fogey talking. I went through university and have been a civil engineer for 11 years. If I had to go back and do it again, I would have gone through trade school and became a skilled labourer. If the US market is like the Canadian market, the trades will see massive retirements in the next ten years and crazy demand for carpenters, plumbers, masons, etc. I’m already seeing it with good contractors even in smaller markets making low to mid six-figure incomes.
My advice --> a trade + some sound business training = independence and financial freedom! (along with some hard, dirty work!...but hey, everything has a price) |

So I take it you are an old LOTR TCG or MTG player?
I am thinking of becoming a lawyer, seems like there is always a need for some more of those. I am currently a sophomore in HS, but I would like to take Criminal Forensics and definitely Contracting at my local Community College/Career Advantage school.
That way if law doesn’t work out maybe building homes might. |

I dabbled in MECCG and SWCCG, but it was more my son that got me playing card games again. He plays MTG more now, but we had both started LotR with Fellowship.

There’s always something to be said for being able to do the work yourself, even if it’s just for your own home. |

| I’d like to be a carpenter, and maybe a part time hand on a farm sometimes, you know that kind of stuff. Possibly an engineer. |
