Do you think space aliens really exist?

Definitely. Every ten years I have those strange circle marks in my corn field.

It takes more than a a few thousand years for fossil fuels to form, even from dead things.

Evolution is a theory, correct, but still, explain fossil fuels!! Also, my World Hist teacher had something interesting to say...

He has a theory (which this part is facutal) that the earth accumulates significant amounts of space dust every year. I forget the figure, but it was something in the ballpark of 100 million tons/year. Granted, spread over the whole earth, that’s not much, but he thought perhaps dinosaurs were already running into problems being big with the gravity of the earth increasing. At millions of tons per year, eventually it will add up. He said this is why life that remained from that area is mostly waterbourne, where gravity mattered less, and also that now life has to be smaller because something the size of a T-Rex would collapse under it’s own weight.

I’m not sure what you mean about the electrical core... why would that mean the earth is 10,000 yrs of less? Makes 0 sense.

One more thing. So you’re saying the dinosaurs were killed in the flood? Why didn’t the dinosaurs kill the people before the flood?

Under Australian lab conditions, scientists have been able to make oil from dead matter within 30 minutes, and coal in just a week or two.

Under Australian lab conditions is not natural, if I may point out.

i believe everything the bible says is true.

I know it the other way around, because God’s days are not equal to human days or sth....

point but still it shows that you can get oil pretty quickly.

Corvus,
yes God’s days ae not the same as ours but don’t you think we would put it in the bible as a concept we could understand? Also if they were more then a day things would have started to die because no animals/insects to pollinate things and plants can’t live for a million yrs.

They can if you think of them as a creation of God. You see, God is almighty, so as he thought things through, his creations that were already done could simply be in "stasis", and they could’ve lived for as long as it took for him to wrap things up.

I’m not generally used to being a hammer, but thanks for the nod. I may address this at some point, but at this time I’m just monitoring this thread to make sure that things stay civil.

From my experience, people generally cannot convince other people when it comes to the literal/figurative creation account, Evolution vs Intelligent Design, Old Earth vs Young earth, Life on other planets vs. Lone Earth theory. It takes a lot of faith to believe in any of them.

In general, I present my arguments, listen carefully to other views, point out illogic and then let the Holy Spirit work on the heart and mind of the other person. I can’t convince people of the truth. It is not my job.

The lenght of time was one of the biggest concerns during the debate about teaching Evolution in classes (forget the name of it). On the 4th day, "God" "created" the Sun and the moon to devide night from day, the seasons, etc. So before that, according to the bible, you can’t really say how long those days were because they weren’t really days. And I made a mistake. I overlooked the statement that light was made on day 1. HOWEVER, he doesn;t make the sun and the moon and the stars until the 3rd day. So where did this light come from? Another thing that I don’t like is that the bible also refers to the moon as a source of light but the only source of light is the sun... and I guess stars but not to any significant extent.
According to the Strong’s Concordance, the Hebrew word for day used in the creation story found in Genesis can be translated both literally (as in from Sunrise to Sunset or Sunrise to Sunrise) or figuratively as in an age. Generally, these words are use literally more often than not, so I am inclined to believe in a literal 7-day creation.

In the current world all light needs a source. The source for that light would have been God since John 1:1-5 says: "1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."

God was active in creating everything and was the source of the light until he created a source that we could see and associate with the generation of light for our world. In the Magician’s Nephew from the Chronicles of Narnia books, there is a passage that describes the creation of a world (that eventually becomes Narnia) that is a very good allegory to creation. The world was sung into existence from nothing and the creator (Aslan) continued the song after initially singing it, but put things in place to continue singing the same chorus after it was initially sung. This is much the same as what happened in Genesis. God spoke in Genesis 1:3 "God said, let there be light, and there was light". Later in Genesis 1:14-15 he created that which would sustain the light that was created, "And God said, ’Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.’ And it was so."

The Bible also uses lots of poetic language to describe things, thus you have a description of the moon as a source of light. If you didn’t know that the sun’s light reflected off of the moon, you would think that the moon itself was generating the light. Since it is the brightest thing at night you would also call it the "ruler of the night" as the sun is the "ruler of the day". We do much the same thing with poetic language today in calling it the "New Moon". It is the same moon, but because of its cycles in revolving around the earth its relative angle to the sun (and thus its reflective surface visible on earth) it seems to grow, shrink disappear completely and then come back to life again.

If you show a cat it’s reflection in a mirror, it will often arch it’s back and hiss or try to get at the other cat that it sees, because it doesn’t have an understanding of reflection, that the cat that it is seeing is really itself. It is much the same with the language that is used to describe things in the Bible. The people were told what to write, but they didn’t necessarily have a firm understanding of the principles that were involved so they wrote what they saw using descriptive language that helped them convey to others what they had seen or were observing. For a more modern example of this watch the Star Trek the Next Generation episode, "Who Watches the Watchers".

This really belongs in a thread other than "Do Aliens Exist?", since it really doesn’t have a bearing on the thread’s real topic.
