Do you think space aliens really exist?

Definitely. Every ten years I have those strange circle marks in my corn field.

I didn’t say there were infinite Gods, I said the universe was infinite with infinite possibilities for different things like life. The reason I said that God seemed foolish was because the people who wrote it were and you seem to believe they are one in the same. Maybe if they wrote it in a way that was relatively... ordered, I would have a different opinion about it. But like Louis Black says:

"The Old Testament was written by my people, the Jewish people. But that book wasn’t good enough for you Christians. You guys said, ’We got a better book and a great new character. You’re going to love it.’ And yet you are constantly interpreting our book. It’s not your book! A lot of the problems we have in the country is that you Christians interpret the Old Testament. You don’t see rabbis going on TV interpreting the New Testament."

I’m not really interpretting it as much as I am stating multiple logical facts to try to get a logical response back. However, if I was to interpret it, I have that freshemn year of Old Testament history to look back on. Full of conceptual interpretation *GASP*.

About the political stance: Wouldn’t your christian morals wing towards Rebuplican though? Abortion, Gay marriage, etc

About mulitple Gods again: I enevr said there were multiple Gods, but for you to believe that there aren’t multiple God’s sons seems a bit uncharacteristic. You seem to believe that Jesus was the only son of God but we as christians grow up being told that we are all the children of God. Growing up I always wondered why this child of his was so special... turns out the only things were that he was born at a rough time in Hebrew history (.... as if they’ve had it so easy), was a decendent from a great King, he had a great speaking ability, and he had lots of family and friends for support.

I believe that it is more that we are adopted children of The God who made the Heavens.

Adopted?! So some other person made you and dropped you off at some porch and there came God and he decided that you looked cute so he took you under his wings. Now I know I’m being literal but still, adopted isn’t the word. Most people believe they were created by God not adopted.... "fearfully and wonderfully made".

I like a lot of how you phrase things, but define sect. A sect is "a group regarded as heretical or as deviating from a generally accepted religious tradition." as dictionary.com tells us.

Now, I’m going to have to admit that Christianity is far larger than Judaism, and saying it’s a sect is not meant to be demeaning- I’m just saying that back in the day, they were the same, until a single event made a split.

Why do think it’s called Judeo-Christian not Muslimo-Christian?
I would define sect as definition 1 from dictionary.com does:

"a body of persons adhering to a particular religious faith; a religious denomination"

In dictionaries, the most common usage is usually the first listed. Sect is generally referred to as a group of people. The way you used it in the original post, it made it sound like it was a sub-set of Judaism rather than an independent faith that had some of its roots in Judaism.

Yes they were much the same for a while, but the one event made them so different they can’t be called part of the same religion any more. It is much the same way that Mormons are not generally regarded as Christians (at least in the circles I run) due to the fact that they view the Book of Mormon as fact and their gospel differs greatly from the Christian Gospel.

Again. Let’s take this off-line if further discussion is desired.

Duh, it seems you know the Bible better than me, I guess that if your creator isn’t your father nobody is.

And you don’t think claiming God is your father is a little bit self-centered?

That was one of the main problems I had with a lot of religious people... they all seem to think God really cares what they do. Comon, it’s one person in a bazillion, I’m sure he’s happy if you’re not killing people, but does he really care about... say.... a dice roll? If that girl says yes? If you do anything that does not affect a significant number of others?

I’m pretty sure the old man with salt-and-pepper hair that lives in my house is my father, I don’t know about you.

Um.... I don’t know that you can avoid being blunt in a philosophical discussion. How would you make the same point I did without you wanting to change the tone? (not in a challenging voice, in an inquisitive voice!) I seriously don’t think we can have a serious philosophical discussion without being able to make points bluntly.

This was not a philisophical discussions thread. It was a space alien discussion thread. There’s a difference.

but an alien discussion thread is bound o turn into philisophical thread so the only solution is to lock it.

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz
