| But you don’t think the way God thinks, so if God thought like the world, we would be in trouble. What about in the death of Lazerus. Jesus, instead of healing Lazerus waited 3 days before going there, and he caused some of his best friend to suffer, and then "He Wept" the shortest verse in the Bible. He had the power to heal him, but he waited and raised him from the dead. This doesn’t really make sense to humans because we know that once their dead their dead, but that’s not God thinking. He might be using suffering to create hope and realization of his Love. If we didn’t have bad things happen and do bad things to others. Why we we need compassion or forgiveness? That’s my 2 cents. |

Obviously, rising from the dead is way more dramatic than healing a sick guy. You don’t have to be god to get why that’s way cooler and more awe-inspiring.
As for needing compassion and forgiveness, that’s how people can manage to make connections and get on with their lives. If for every fight in a high school, the guys never got over it and tried to kill each other, how would the world be? If for every girl you’ve gone out with decided she wanted to kill you? The world would erupt into chaos. Thankfully, those without those traits have been bred out of the genepool because they get killed, maimed, or locked in jail. |

I would disagree with that, no matter even if the Devil came back and other apocaliptic things happened. God would still be in control and anything that didn’t end up being what God had in mind for his master plan would not happen. There is another verse in the Bible, "For we cannot see to all ends, but God can." That wasn’t the exact words, but you get the idea. And for that Violence is hereditary, and we can’t choose to be otherwise. That is wrong because every human being since Adam and Eve have made consciencious choices about what they do, and it was not based on who their parents were. Look at the first people; they had every reason not to sin, but they did it anyway, and blamed that it wasn’t their fault.
And before I stop, in response to the first paragraph. To be hailed as the ruler of Heaven and Earth and everything in beetween. You need to be impressive, and that is just a quark of what his power is. |

Of course everybody has free will.
But I’d bet a whole boatload of money that you didn’t become a religious zealot without some encouragement of some kind from your parents.
If/when I sin, which is not a common occurance (granted I don’t know every sin, but in general I don’t do things I feel are wrong so I probably don’t much), it’s for a reason. If I speed on the roads, it’s because I have to get to school on time or to a rehearsal on time or something where I consciously put arrival on time in the forefront of my goals. If I didn’t speed and I got there late, I would detract from whatever activity in which I was participating. People don’t have every reason to not sin- that’s just plain wrong. People benefit (you could argue and I’m sure you will that they won’t benefit in the afterlife or seomthing like that but remember regular sinners probably don’t care about that) from sinning, whether you like it or not, in most cases. That’s typically why people do it. |

OK i said I was going to post again but...
so you are essentially saying if it is useful it is OK?
in that case why don’t I just kill every person on this planet, less pollution etc.?
Or i could say I am going to steal your car it benefits me. The Q. is does it hurt someone?
Did you become an atheist without some encouragement from your parents? |

I was not implying that it’s okay, I was merely refuting the point that "they have every reason in the world not to [sin]."
My parents probably don’t even realize I’m athiest, and I don’t care what they think about very much anyway. We have somewhat similar political views, but I am different religiously and somewhat ethically- they have old fashioned stereotypical ideas whereas I just like don’t lie and stuff- I define something as unethical if it hurts somebody and/or just feels wrong, not by specifics.
As for killing people on the planet, I think it would help a lot but it isn’t right or pheasable. People should just get some pills/other contraceptives and the world would be helped immensely. |

I dare say, it sure looks like got doesn’t care as of now at least. I have faith that if there were a God who cared, he would have either not led people to nukes etc. or he would have just blown everything up and started again.
ok read revalation, and Daniel. according to the Bible, the world will be destroyed by fire... it might be nuclear weapons...
to think God is the one who makes all things bad, is wrong. he is a Perfect God. I also know God cares about every move i make, every breath i breath, etc. i will find you scripture references later. but here are some things.
we can’t hide from God. (Psalms)
and he knows every hair on your head (talk about carring! who cares about how many hairs you have? God!)
he knew you before you were born...(THat says he love me alot!)
Go ahead people, creat your own people, but get your own life cells, not the ones God created, and also get your own chemicals!
One last thing,
when we all die, if i am wrong about God, bit whoop. nothing will happen to me i will just be dead.
if a non-believer dies, but God is real, he has everything to lose! |

I55’s last statement is partially what drove me to become a Christian.
I was petrified of Fire and thinking that if God was true I would spend eternity in fire, well I was scared and since then when I have seen all the evidence...
well It has only served to cement my faith. |

And that is exactly why I refuse to be religious. I know that if I were to become religious on that principle, then I would believe all the junk about God knowing everything, and then he would know I was being untrue, which is an even worse wrong.
Let me ask you like this: would you rather have a backstabber or an outright enemy? Rather a liar or somebody who’s just different?
It would morally wrong in my eyes for me to just become religious for that- to the point where it’s far worse than just being athiest.
Plus, I’m not EXACTLY athiest... I believe that perhaps God created the earth... just not 10k years ago. Based on fossil evidence, the existance of australopithicus exist (I may or may not have spelled that right..) but in any case, I don’t believe that the fossils are really from so recent a time. I believe that perhaps God created the Earth 4 billion yrs. ago because I mean, comon, if you were God, wouldn’t you make something? Anyway, I’ve no doubt in my mind that it would be far too presumptuous to think god actually cares about the rabble on a personal basis... that’s kind of making yourself self-important. It’s such elitist attitudes that start wars. (And now I sound like a hippie... which is NOT true) Anyways, I’d rather have an idea that supports science and logic, rather than making the choice. Science says the earth has been around for more than 10k years, whatever electrical theories say. Evolution has been obviously occuring. The better question is did God INTEND for there to be evolution? Nobody ever thinks of it that way. I believe God created the Earth a long time ago and generally does not affect the earth on any given day.
And out of curiousity, what evidence? It seems to me it’s more an issue of faith than evidence...
Anyways, in World History AP today, we were talking about Islam and how there were people who took over for Mohammed after he died... and somewhat in jest but somewhat seriously, we thought perhaps Christianity would be widely known as a sect of Judaism if that had happened. I mean, comon, Jesus was Jewish... who do you think would have taken over after him? One of his Jewish disciples? We thought perhaps because Christianity had no true leader for a few hundred years, the people dissasociated themselves from the Jews.
Sorry about that last random tangent |
