Ingold is right that you can not git to heaven by works. Reliogion Has not Lost Its morals You HAVE

First off, I find this offensive and will be inquiring if there is a way to give karma smacks. Secondly, I don’t think saving a hundred innocent people is a loss of morals, and I’m not sure why you seem to think I’ve lost my morals? I’m sure I lie less than 9/10’s of the people you meet, many of them "religious" and I bet I do more good things. Next Saturday, I’m going down to a senior home nearby and helping a concert for them, no pay, not even NHS hours for it. Just plain nothing, I just felt like giving the old people some entertainment. That doesn’t sound like the workings of a depraved person to me.

Actually, I lie less than anybody I know... the last time I lied.... probably over three weeks ago. I can’t seem to remember.

Disobeying parents, that’s easy. All the time. Every day. I only listen when they make sense.

Lust/envy? Um.... yes. Today at a spoils tournament, I was envious at my friend’s pool. I didn’t wish ill of him, I just wish I had that kind of luck. It’s like if you managed to pull two glare of subdual, a Bop, and a pair of hierarchs for your rares in a sealed. It was absolutely sick. As for the first one, not in a surprisingly long time. I’ve become rather disenchanted with people in general, lately, women included. << joke omitted, PM me if you want to hear it, as I’m sure somebody would complain if I posted it.

Dislike a person and thought evil of them? Well, there’s some guy I was playing recreational basketball against (there were teams and stuff, but it’s not counting for much) and he kept cursing and eventually screamed the F-word REALLY loudly and got a tech. foul for it and I thought he should get his mouth washed out with soap. In general, I try to make a point of not disliking people, just specific things about them, like prejudices or foul language. I don’t dislike the kid- he’s had a hard life so far, I just didn’t think he should be so vulgar in a fun game.

As for the last part of my last post, what I was saying is what if a person lacks the capacity to comprehend religion and consequentially CAN’T accept Christ? What if they just do the best they can with extremely limited mental capacity? Are they let in? I would say yes, a Christian would say no. I find that to be a problem.

.

my answer is yes to all the questions i asked too. but let me ask you this
since God has a level of perfection and can only let perfect people into heaven, why should he let a person who sinned against his perfect laws into heaven? he shouldn’t, and wouldn’t.
however God gave his son to be crusified to pay the price of sin. once a person accepts God’s gift of forgiveness, he loses that sin. the Bible says "it is separated as far as the east is from the west." you are made perfect. it is after the acceptence of Christ that works come into the picture. they are what help fasion us after Chirst.

in answere to your last paragraph.

As i said, i believe God will ask to come to each man/women on the level they can comprehend. so if i were impared mentaly, God would come and tell me his story of forgiveness on my level. then it is up to me to accept God.

do you understand what i am saying?

Here’s an even better question. What if somebody tries to accept religion but can’t ( a non-impaired individual?) Is trying your best enough? Once again, I would say yes, but a Christian would say no. I would find that a problem.

There’s something most Christians believe, called child accountability, (great I can’t remember the exact name) anyone it basically says that if someone for someone reason cannot comprehend their sins or how to gain salvation they will go to heaven. (Ie 2 yr. olds, maybe some handicapped people etc.)

I have not said religion has lost all it’s morals. There are some good things that can come from religion.

I’m relieved to hear about the thing from SoP, that’s definately good.

I guess my point is as long as somebody has done more good than evil, why shouldn’t they be let into heaven regardless of Christ? Doesn’t it kind of seem like if you are Christian you can do stuff wrong, then, but as long as you’re Christian, you’ll make it into heaven anyway? I duno... it feels like that would just be taking the easy way out, like getting rewarded for stuff you didn’t do.

Thanks, MH... I agree wholeheartedly. I was actually enjoying this discussion with ingold, as it gives me a greater perspective into the minds of other groups I don’t ordinarily get to understand, until hobbit came in.

Unless you take away bits and pieces of the Bible, you cannot get around where it says that the only way to heaven is through Jesus. It says it several times.

And if you take bits and pieces from the Bible, you might as well take out the part that says:

I was looking for the exact verse, but i couldnt find it... it says that whoever adds or takes away from the Bible will have all of the plagues of the Earth apon him.

the child accountability thing right? yeah When I think about abortion that helps knowing that all those unborn children are in heaven. Yes H13 you are acting immature about this if you can’t post in a non-confrontational matter please leave this discussion.

I55 came up with what?
yeah it is kinda hard to think that people who are really good won’t make it into heaven but as I55 said it is a hard thing to accept but then what fi you counted good works against bad? What if a person had done the exact same amount? what would happen then?

Maybe it’s one of those things like a coin landing on the edge. It should theorhetically be able to happen but just never seems to. It is a good question, though.

I was always a guy who believed in second chances, and I think if a person was a decent person, they might have to descend for a few years of suffering before being able to achieve entry into heaven. I never liked the idea of making a final decision about classifying people- I feel that people CAN change if they try hard enough.

I suppose you were kind of trying to set off a spark-bomb with me about abortion, but I’ve long since known that this is the single least worth discussing topic known to man. There is no proof, no evidence, no nothing that can even make a person budge either way. At least with the topic of heaven, we can have some though provoking discussions about the grey area, but there’s no grey to explore with abortion.

When I saw the child thing, I was more thinking about the starving children in Africa (something like 11 million die of malnutrition a year- I should know because my Envi Sci AP class ran over that a few days back).
