I’m not quite what I would call an environmentalist. I just understand that were screwing up the world for future generations of people by burning too many fossil fuels. People may think I’m crazy, but I want the world to be in the best shape possible for my children.

I think people are superior to nature, but we shouldn’t destroy it needlessly. For all the services and resources the earth provides, it’s worth 33 trillion dollars (over 6 times global earnings) annually. So why ruin it?

I think alien people win Razz At least if you’re religious... for those of us who aren’t convinced of all the jesus stuff, we’ll have to argue hypothetically. However, I think everybody here is either religious or believes there are probably aliens abroad or both, so we should be covered.

Good debate, enjoy winter break. Hope you guys are getting more snow than the pathetic drizzle of rain I got Razz

i agree with matchetman.

God tells us to be submissive to leaders (even bad ones) because God put them in office, but if their rules contredict God’s rules, go with God’s.

alien has also been called, stranger to this place, so in a certain extent, we are all aliens, and God was an alien.

true we are burning alot of fossil fuels, and i too want my kids (if and/or when i get them) to have a great world. but i believe we have a large supply of fossil fuels not yet found.

as far as the killing animals...
if you look at india, it is a poor country, for several reasons.
the one i am aiming at is, they won’t kill any animals, so those animals eat alot of grain, and can spread dieses. do kill out ragiously, but don’t become too out ragious.

Didn’t we pass this in like..... the 15th century? Divine right was largely given up by Europe because if God really put people in power, then why would he put bad ones there? Not all rulers are just.

Aliens are commonly defined as beings from outer space. I don’t know about you, but I’m from the earth and never left. Hence, I’m not an alien. God is, and Jesus is (assuming once again that you believe in both, which seems to be a pretty safe assumption given the audience).

true we are burning alot of fossil fuels, and i too want my kids (if and/or when i get them) to have a great world. but i believe we have a large supply of fossil fuels not yet found.

I think you’re missing my point here- I don’t mean that we’re using them up. I mean that we’re releasing greenhouse gases into the air which cause an increase in global temperature. That means that the permafrost thaws, and more greenhouse gases are released, causing a greater rise in temperature, on an on until the ice caps melt and we are all flooded out and there is no more life on land- there would be no land. That’s what I’m worried about, not using the fuels, but about flooding the over half the earth’s population that lives on coasts.

Not so much just killing animals as killing the system. As for individual animals, I eat beef regularly. But if you want to start poisoning the water with chemicals, or having C.A.F.O.s dump their much into oceans, creating algae blooms and eventually massive dead zones, then that’s an issue with me. If you don’t get that jargon, post back and I’ll explain, but it’s late here on the east coast and I need some sleep.

well, except that Jesus wasn’t from outer space...

luckly for us, God promised never to compleatly flood the earth again.

yeah, i think we all agree that killing organisms for our needs is right, but but just killing needlessly is wrong. i mean, humans could not survive without killing other organisms.

you said assuming we believed in "both" God and Jesus. but they are the same.

what is up with the weather on the east coast?

where to we get our morals from? from my experience it has clearly been from one’s family and society.

On the subject of flexibility. just take a look at history. slavery, holocaust, conquistadors. Weren’t the last two here UNDER the word of god?

you have to see that even with people believing in god there are moral autrocities.

I think that all three of those were the product of human greed and they tried to make it seem right by putting it next to something they really knew was right. How do you know Cortez and others were Christians? By his actions he didn’t seem to be a Christian. He was a vile deceitful man. While Jesus was humble and rightous. And if Christian are commanded to follow Jesus then he did not appear to be a true Christian.

What about thou shalt not kill? The most basic law here is flaunted in wars, when even the religious kill because the human-established government said to.
One of the most often mis-understood and mis-interpreted passages in the Bible. There is no commandment against killing. In the Bible (again going on faith that it is accurate) God has even told the Israelites to kill the inhabitants of the land they were entering. The commandment in Hebrew is to not murder.

Again, as has been challenged in this thread over and over, before you make assertions, please do your research.

They are only the same if you believe in Jesus. People can believe in god without believing in Jesus. Try any religion other than Christianity. I was trying to be tolerant, here. I know Jews, I know Muslims, and I know various people in other obscurer religions, and they believe in God but not Jesus. The world might not always see things the same way so let’s try to at least be able to encompass the whole world instead of assuming everybody else believes the same things we do.

I have no clue. What I do know is that the weather in Maryland bites.

it goes back to this:

you can say this isn’t like this. (in this case I believe in God but not Jesus), but just because you say it doesn’t make it so.

Jesus said: I [Jesus] and the Father [God] are one. He says it clearly, He and God the Father are the same spirits.

God can put leaders into power, but they become corrupted.

comonly defind, but have you ever heard the term "he is an alien here." (or something along those lines)

In the 1800 and 1900, people came to america from other nations, and were refered to as aliens. (people still do come, but not in as large a scale.)

Um... dude. There are non-Christians in the world, too. Not everybody believes in Jesus. Not everybody believes in Santa, either, which may come as a shock if you believed the first.

If somebody doesn’t believe in Jesus, they don’t care what jesus says. I can’t believe I just had to state that.

Just because you believe in Jesus and God doesn’t make it so, but you don’t see me rubbing that in your face. Try and be at least the slightest bit tolerant of other cultures and religions.

For the power thing: I have trouble believing any god would put Saddam Hussein in power. I believe that God has absolutely no role in who is put into power in modern politics. Otherwise we’d all be Christian, right?

People do come, and in even larger scales. You must live far away from the Mexican border. Anyways, we all know the "aliens" intended was extraterrestrial life, not immigrants.

no i am not shoving it. i just stated it. did i ever say every body believed in Jesus? no. i know not all men will become Christians, which is a sad thing to me. I am sorry, i am not meaning for it to sound like i am in tolerant of other religions, and i am not meaning to make it sound like i am shoving down your throat.
here is what i mean. A person may not believe in a molacule, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, the same goes for Jesus.

in answer to the second statement. no we won’t all be Christians.
God can put people in power, to show others what not to be like....

haw haw haw!!!!! me living far from the mexican border? i live in TX. but there were several million imagrants that came to america over a year, back in the early 1900’s.
