Do you think space aliens really exist?

Definitely. Every ten years I have those strange circle marks in my corn field.

God have foresight in what will happen and he knows that if someone is ready to come to him and he know when someone would want to come to him, so maybe he knows that in some situations he just can’t change the people. What is the major mindset of people in the world. Rebelious people that say God doesn’t exist and that say that morality is based on the eyes of the beholder.

Well.... um... I would tend to disagree that God is the major mindset of people in the world because I believe you mean Jesus, which is very far from the truth. In reality, Christianity takes up nowhere near half the people in the world.

I don’t exactly find myself to be a rebel, either, because rebelling I think we all would agree is breaking conformity in some fashion, in this case morally, but I assert that there is no normal to conform to, so I’m not really a rebel.

I, for one, don’t really care how the earth was created. Maybe it was god, maybe some bang, maybe something else, but the point is, it doesn’t affect me now and I’ll never know. Obviously, I find the more pertinent issues to be whether god exists now, how to take care of our world for the future, and of course, how to fill my wallet. To me, there’s no sense debating HOW the earth was created, because no matter how, it was. If you want to argue about the existence of god, the better arguement is the age of the earth (which determines things like natural resources) and measuring the values of the religion.

I’m not trying to be offensive here. You guys are all cool people (you play the best game ever Smile ). I must speak my mind here. Without further ado, here is my point in all potency.

let A= the christian belief that jesus was the son of god. this belief is based on faith because we lack empirical evidence.
let B= the muslim belief that jesus was not the son of god. this belief is also based on faith for the same reason.
let T= the combination of all universal actions ever. in essence, the truth.

the faithful use faith to attribute their beliefs to truth.
therefore, both A=T and B=T according to these two religions (and there are hundreds more that could be used instead)

if A=T and B=T, then A must also equal B. But A does not equal B; they contradict eachother. therefore, faith does not attribute belief with truth.

Faith is completely and utterly irrelevant with regard to what actually exists in the celestial realm.

With faith out of the picture, believers have nothing to hide behind. There is no emperical evidence, no possible scientific process. This belief is belittled to the belief in santa claus, one that is forced by authority (usually society) and that no rational person should take seriously.

I don’t believe in a god, but I don’t attempt to claim there is no god, or there can’t possibly be a god. To make such a claim is pointless because I cannot justify it with evidence. But there is no rational reason to believe in god. And there is no reason to believe that one’s belief manifests actual truth.

Why do people believe in god? There are three reasons why, as I see it.
1) The belief was forced upon them at a young age and they grew up with this belief as a solid foundation. They relied on authority, something I hope no one does with our current occupant.....

2)An explanation. People want to know what the meaning of life is, where we came from etc. This does not however give justification for why the belief in a god. Just because you can’t see how something occured, doesn’t mean something just said "poof".

3)Comfort. People need comfort in their lives. The belief in god clearly gives some people comfort. But the need for comfort does not give justification for believing in god, it just provides a motivation.

There may be more, but I see no rational justification for a belief in god, only positve and negative consequences.

I am searching for the truth. I don’t care what would be more comforting or whatever as a belief, I just want to know the truth, regardless of its nature.

OK you seem to want evidence, well we have given quite a bit in this thread, but if you want more, read the Case for a Creator you will find quite a lot. You could also read the Case for Faith and the Case for Christ all by Lee Strobel

LC911, there are more. the reason i believe in God, the reason i am a Christian, is that He has shown himself real to me, in supernatural ways. and that is something which you can’t prove. it is something in your heart, in your spirit. no matter how much we debate, God cannot be proved. God is something you can only know is real if He reveals it to you. He works on a personal, individual, and powerful basis.

all written by a man who already "knows" the deepest answers to the cosmos. all written on the assumption of faith corresponding to truth, which, as I’ve shown, is false.

when I say evidence, it corresponds to evidence brought through the scientific process. observation, experiment, verification and conclusion.

religion simply has never fulfilled this process. what has happened is people witnessing something and then interpreting something in the bible to correspond to that event. do you think that scientists accept something as completely true after one experiment? of course not. a theory gains support with experimental verification and loses support (drastically) if evidence points against it. evolution is a theory that has gained tremendous support over the past century with experimental evidence. are most scientists arrogant enough to claim that it’s the complete and utter truth? no, but they are going to support it with the support the theory has earned for itself through experimental verification.

there’s a reason why 96% of top scientists reject religion: it does not adhere to their process of discovery, a process that has been shown to be the most successful in human history.

macheteman, i don’t mean to be judgemental, but that’s a pretty bad argument.

what about the indian tribe elder to whom all 40 gods he believes in reveal themselves in a dream?

what about the muslim to whom allah speaks, "kill all the insolent christians"?

I’m not going to call you insane, I’m sure you actually believe god revealed himself to you. But to think your belief manifests actual truth when there are contradictory occurences here is irrational.

A certainly does not equal B.

jesus cannot simultaneously be the son of god and not be the son of god.

you’re telling me the existence of god was repeatedly verified through experiment with results corresponding precisely to experimental predictions.

i don’t think so. i wil check that book out next time i go the library. thanks.
