Do you think space aliens really exist?

Definitely. Every ten years I have those strange circle marks in my corn field.

All I am saying is the only thing I have ever heard of was from the ice age. I could be wrong... I just said that I have never heard of any conclusive evidence. And even if there was something other then melting polar caps, I wouldnt label it as an act of God.

Stars: due to the speed of light, if the universe was created less then 10000 years ago like he suggests/believes, it would be impossible for us to see as many stars in the sky as we do.

He said Earth was 10000 yrs old. Unless he believes everything was set into place by God at that time. If this is true then the first page of the Bible would makes sence only if days back then were much longer. It says that seed bearing plants were formed before the lights in the night sky were in place. Today it takes starlight from the closest star 4.2 years to reach Earth.

Quote:
Why? the stars could be closer than what they appear, and let us just go on the idea that God did put them there (which i agree with). He could have made the light shine faster at the beginning of time, and slowed it down.

Well the distance to most stars are facts (with an obvious small inaccuracy). It is really easy to find the distance to something accurately. In fact, you or I could find the distance to a given star with much precision. I did this in college astronomy.

Now it is stated that space is infinite. So if you repeat that precentage over and over again an infinite ammount of times, it is bound to happen multiple times (infinite, actually). So right there, I just proved the strong possibilty of life on other planets......

Like I said before, I believe the universe is finite. (limited)
here is a second example: (not as strong of an example)

Whether you know it or not, you were talking about an old theory called Olber’s Paradox. It explains why we do not see more light in the sky at night than we do now. If you stand deep in a forest and look in any direction, eventually your view out will be blocked by a tree. If this forest flat and of infinite size, no matter where you looked there would be a tree blocking your view, no matter how thin the forest is or how skinny the trees.

The same thing could happen in space with starlight. Unless the light is blocked by intersellar dust along the way somewhere in space, this supports two theories:
1) the universe is finite (limited)
and/or
2) the universe was recently created (by God or by big bang)

But if the first 3 days (the 4th day was the creation of the light)... i just don’t see it. Everyone knows that the Sun’s gravitation pull keeps the Earth in it’s place as well as every other planet. So the bible says nothing about other planets and it says nothing about the gravitational pull of the sun and why the earth isn’t flying through space indefinetly. If there was vegetation and life before Light, how did they survive? Vegetation needs water and sun light to survive. If the days are longer then normal then all the plants would die off by "8:00 AM". Not to mention life forms... IT’S COLD! So what about the other planets? Did god create them? Were they there before? If i am not mistaken, nothing existed outside of God and his slaves... errr... angels. Now all those questions about vegetation and life without the Sun could easily be ignorantly rebutted by saying "God allowed it" but if God was smart he would have made light first so he didn’t have to defy his own laws and the outcome would have still been the same. So why does the bible have all of these scientific problems... because the bible was written at a time when there weren’t as many scientific understandings.... so if something has this many flaws that can’t logically be accepted, how can you say it’s correct?

I understand what you are saying and I’m not gonna sit here and try to rebut it. It is a logical observation and has just as much probability as my belief. However, I don’t see how this could possibly prove the universe was recently created. But I’ll leave it open that the trial is still out for me about the finite/infinite debate. However, keep in mind, that if the universe is infinite, there will be an infinite ammount of dust, objects, planets, etc that will block the path of whatever you want to look at.

if you can follow that I will explain why if the theory is correct the earth is les then 10,00- years old.

I get that, what I don’t get is the connection between having electricity and age.

anyways, aren’t we only theorizing about what’s in the core, anyway? If were here doubting all theories, I’m going to have to doubt that one, too.

Yes we are theorizing. but almost all scientists agree there is electro magnetism going on.
anyway One of the theories (called the rapid decay theory) used to explain it is that the electrical current of the earth is a consequence of how the earth was created.
The other theory (the dynamo theory) states that the rotation of the earth and other random currents cause the liquids in the core to move in one general direction causing motion of electrical charges and thus causing an electrical current.
While the theories both explained things on earth so they were tested on other planets. The Dynamo theory said that mars had a magnetic field while the RD(rapid decay) theory said it didn’t testing indicates that mars has no Magnetic field. The dynamo theory predicted to magnetic field on mercury while the RD theory predicted one. Mercury has a magnetic field. The RD theory was correct on Uranus and Neptune while the dynamo theory was off by a factor of 100.
Anyway the RD theory says that unless the earth was less then 10,000 yrs. old the current needed to maintain the field would have exploded the earth!
help any?

Your right, we don’t know exactly, but all this talk about a supreme being and floods and "the fall"... or my theory of time. Which is far fetched?

Look at the flood. it destroyed and changed many land formations. changed plates in the earth, changed the looks of mountains...the list goes on.

I have never seen conclusive evidence of this thing u refer to as the flood. The only thing any where near it is an ice age that occurred in North America when the ice caps melted and created many great lakes and rivers, etc.

OK Almost Every single people group on earth has some sort of legend about a great flood. Are you saying they all were wrong and that every single one of those were a legend?
It would explain many geological phenomena like the grand canyon etc.

It has been fun. but i am sorry you haven’t proven life on other planet to me. Confused Neutral

I don’t really care if I didn’t convince you, I’m just trying to shed some light and get you thinking. But I’m not out to make a difference... I don’t want to make a difference... and I’m not going to waste much time talking to you about it if you refuse to understand the validity of mathematics... come to think of it, you were the one that said this:

have you ever read a creationist based book or movie? i have read some things about evolution. DO you have any insight in this aside form your friend?

If you were leader of the US would you like it if every body hated you and said you were a horrible president? I mean c’mon president is a tough job especially of a nation as diverse as the USA.

NO! Shut up! Thats the exact kind of ignorant talk I’m talking about. The simpsons said it best "we had an exam today about creationalism and all of the answers were ’God did it’". The stars are measured mathematically. Are you denying the laws of math? They are the only thing that can not be defuted. 2+2= 4... are you saying that that is doubtable? It’s not and never will be. Why would God speed up the speed of light just for stars? Thats redic

we only say 2+2=4 because that is what we have been told. we could make it where 3+2=4....off subject. so are you saying that man took a measuring tape to each star and measured? also, "we are slowly moving closer to the sun." (evolutionist statement) well how do you know we aren’t drifting farther from the stars, or the stars from us?

I am saying that carbon dating is not just a bit off, but rather alot off. most of the scientist that run carbon dating (if i am correct) are athiest. (kind of biast if you ask me) Carbon dating is just like radio dating. it uses numbers plugged into the computor to estimate not give solid fact date.

I never claimed it should be used for a solid date, but as a refrence and a closes "estimate".

God didn’t confuse us, man confused man. he took radia / carbon dating, and tried to match things up. after the fall, fossils started appearing, then the flood happened. the water residue and blasts of water, could have aged the look of bones considerably. (if that is what happened. we don’t know)

ok, since you don’t want to go on the fall, and a divin God. The flood has been in every history. chinese, muslim, european... with all those going for it, i would say it happened.

Look at the flood. it destroyed and changed many land formations. changed plates in the earth, changed the looks of mountains...the list goes on.

see what was said above.

It has been proven life cannot come about by and explosion. it is more possible for a tornado to go through a junkyard and a city like San diago. than have an explosion make something so intricate as life. (i have shot fire crackers, they don’t make life!) to have planet with the correct atmosphere, correct heat, correct rotation, correct gravity... is impossible.

It’s obviously not impossible. I never said (or I never meant for it to be intererpted in that way) that life came because of the big bang, just that conditions were made to accomodate said life. But regardless, it’s not impossible, there is a small percentage, when spread out throughout an inifnite ammount of space and having an infinite ammount of possible times for it to occur, you are bound to get a few of those situations ( by few i mean an unknown number greater then 1). I don’t understand what you are missing because even my hardcore creationalist philosopher agreed with me on this, and he rarely ever settles.

limited people cannot know if the universe is unlimited. how do we know have we sent people to the utmost edges of space? (the answere is no) it has got to have an end, and a beginnig.

I think the Bible says something before the 4th day like "He called the light day and the dark night." I did say "night sky". I’m sure the sun was there as the plants lived.

I didn’t mean longer days literally. What about the time when there was no sun? Was that first "day" 40 billion years long?

just something to throw out in the debate...

if the world was created by God (which is what I believe), and he created the stars, he could have made it where the light was already going from the stars and touching the earth... that way the stars wouldn’t have to send light to reach the earth in x billion years.

I do agree that planets are most likely nearly as far as estimated, but i just wanted to throw somthing out there....

nice debating Physcosick.

The lenght of time was one of the biggest concerns during the debate about teaching Evolution in classes (forget the name of it). On the 4th day, "God" "created" the Sun and the moon to devide night from day, the seasons, etc. So before that, according to the bible, you can’t really say how long those days were because they weren’t really days. And I made a mistake. I overlooked the statement that light was made on day 1. HOWEVER, he doesn;t make the sun and the moon and the stars until the 3rd day. So where did this light come from? Another thing that I don’t like is that the bible also refers to the moon as a source of light but the only source of light is the sun... and I guess stars but not to any significant extent.

@ingold: I was reading your post but there were just too many different colors and too many posts combined in one that I couldn’t finish reading it. The only part I really got to was when you said the earth is moving closer to the sun. Earth does not have a set distance from the sun. It fluctuates back and forth. At some point it will be closer... other times further away. This is easily represented through aphelion and perihelion.

See what happens during an Ice Age is what we’re used to as land becomes covered in ice. So, for example, the U.S. was in Ice during the last ice age. My understanding was that when the ice melted, the lower parts of the world became covered in water (the Great Lakes, minor inland seas and things like that).
