Oh no?
Barbecue: –verb
To broil or roast whole or in large pieces over an open fire, on a spit or grill, often seasoning with vinegar, spices, salt, and pepper.
(Dictionary.com Unabridged)
Barbeque: -noun A grill, pit, or outdoor fireplace for roasting meat.
-verb A whole animal carcass or section thereof roasted or broiled over an open fire or on a spit.
(American Heritage Dictionary)
Think charcoal grill.
1657, from Amer.Sp. barbacoa, from Arawakan (Haiti) barbakoa "framework of sticks," the raised wooden structure the Indians used to either sleep on or cure meat. Originally "meal of roasted meat or fish," modern popular noun sense of "grill for cooking over an open fire" is 1931.
(Online Etymology Dictionary)
Barbeque: -noun a rack to hold meat for cooking over hot charcoal usually out of doors
-verb cook outdoors on a barbecue grill
(Princeton WordNet)
EDIT, dagnabit, NB! You posted before me. That’s what I get for finding all these definitions.
Alright, well, as for yours: I’m guessing you marinade lamb in teriaki and then put it on a stick and start grilling over charcoal, turning periodically.
TPBM doesn’t really care about the technical definition of barbecue, because it tastes good either way |

To heck with the technical definiton yes, but I prefer (just prefer nothing against the quick grilling of meat) the slow cooking of my meat in a real barbecue. The world is in such a rush nowadays that grilling in more convienent, but nothing beats grabbing ahold of a rib or piece of chicken after a slow roastind and it just falls off the bone. I do like grilling as well but prefer the other way.
TPBM is a vegetarian and is grossed out by all this talk of cooking and eating animals |
