This subject has fascinated me for the past few years of high school. I have researched it passionately and plan on writing a book on the subject sometime in my life.
I’d like to share my conclusions on religion:
First I’d like to emphasize a certain law of logic. The burden of proof lies with he/she who proposes the truth of a proposition.
As of now, there is no scientific proof of a god. Religion asks one to take a "leap of faith" to provide oneself with truth. Faith, in this sense, is the single most illogical act of human beings......ever. I must ask you guys, at least those of you who consider yourselves faithful, what makes you think your belief manifests actual truth in any way?
If god exists, he/she/it? will exist regardless of ANYONE’s belief. If he/she/it? doesn’t exist, one’s opinion is not going to change this. With this said, I encourage people to believe in what they want, it is however a constitutional right. However, I strongly encourage people to take a closer look at this belief, and its relevance with absolute truth.
On to the subject of Creationism and Evolution. Creationism asks for two things. One is this leap of faith. One’s opinion is quite irrelevant concerning a past event (e.g. start of the universe). This event occured somehow, and now someone’s opinion on how it happened won’t change how the event occured. Second is an Earth that dates around 9000-10000 years of age. Handfulls of scientific evidence refutes this claim. With powerful telescopes, scientists have observed light emitted from stars millions and millions of light years away.
Evolution is a powerful and elegant theory. It has survived countless tests and has compiled a list of supporting evidence. I belive in Darwin’s method of natural selection because of this supporting evidence.
I am an atheist. I formulated this opinion after researching the subject of god’s existance with an open mind. I lean slightly towards agnostisism in that I don’t deny the possibility of a god or multiple gods existing; but I simply don’t believe in a god. I find it especially interesting when multiple religions are applied together. The contradictory results are both amusing and supporting in my belief.
I will leave you guys with a little brain teaser. Let god exist. Let god be omnipotent and omniscient, just as many religions claim.
Can the omniscient god
Who knows how the future unfolds
Find the omnipotence
To change his mind?
Clearly, these attributes are logically incompatible. |

Trust me, if there is one thing I have learned it is never waste much time writing on one of these threads here because no matter how many times you make a logical claim or make a scientific fact that proves God didn’t create the Earth, the religious people here will just refute it by saying something like "God wanted to do it like that" "he works in myserious ways" etc etc
And about your last question: "God knows only truth, if he knows only truth then he can never be wrong. Right and wrong are a form of morals and God is the standard for our moral values."
see... it’s that easy [even a caveman can do it] *love those commercials... and the irony kills me in the context of this* |

Yes I do see some of the futility in these arguments.
But I think you missed the point to that last question. Here’s the thing, if you’re omniscient you are all knowing, you know the future, you know how it unfolds. If you’re omnipotent you have complete power over everything, you are all powerful.
Let god know how the next week plays out. He is omniscient after all. But know he has sacrificed his omnipotence. He no longer has the power to change his mind on HOW the next week plays out. If he did have this power of omnipotence, his original outlook on the week could be wrong.
The main problem with any religious argument is the assumption that god exists. You can’t start a logical argument without first proving your premises. Otherwise you have "assumptions," and although your deduction may be valid, the argument in whole isn’t necessarily true. |

Who would make all of these cool stories up?... oh I don’t know... what about this: LINK. Who made them cool stories up? Hmmm...
And they didn’t find Noah’s arc, they found wood from a ship which could have easily have been vikings or simply a fishermen’s boat or something. Just because you find wood doesnt mean you can classify it as something it’s not. And just because it’s written down doesnt mean it’s true... check my link if your not convinced. Saying that it’s treu because it’s written down and "who could possibly make up these cool stories" is idiotic, irresponsible, and immature. |

| Did u read my post? I was calling you that because your basing things as facts when they most certainly are not. You cant say they are facts but you seem to believe it proves something when the only thing it proves is your ignorance. |
