I wrote in my response that i dont vote based off of political parties... so no... I might be quick to "label [you]" but that in no way means that I am going to be hard headed and blind to the more important issues.
No you don’t know me, but it’s hard not to know you. Your presence is the only one that kept me around during my first few days of surfing this site. That is to say, it was nice to hear someone balancing a lot of the FAR right-wing reach-arounds that go on here.
With that said, it was not you who I was talking to about labeling. It was the other posters in the discussion. |

Felipe Musco wrote: I moved this here to fit in the discussion, and what can I say? My rebuttal is, "Yep, I’d do that. No problem". Of COURSE I’d take a shower to wash off the blood before, though. But if you implied asking a question about conscience (is this spelled correctly?), I’ve got pretty close to none when it comes to people who break the law. I’ve seen and done more than enough to have my mind set. Now, there’s a legal statement here that allows you to, let’s say, steal and walk away freely (you STILL commited a crime, though, you were just not punished for it), in case you really need it to eat, although repetition may cause the judge to not relevate it anymore. However, if you need to steal so you can eat, then steal from a large store or supermaket, where they actually have food (and steal the food, not their money), and can take a small loss (it’s still not correct, but if it’s your ONLY choice before starvation...). Other than that, go do something! Cut lawn, wash cars, carry bags at a supermarket, walk some dogs, heck, escort old ladies as they walk to a store in the middle of the night or something, I won’t say "get a job" ’cause that sometimes is not THAT easy, but these "underjobs" will most likely net you a small amount of money to survival until you can find a real job (or you start making a good money out of it and MAKE it YOUR real job, like what happened to dogwalkers and such) without resorting to stealing, hurting, murdering, etc.
So bottom line, yeah, if he’s (was) carrying a gun or other dangerous weapon in a case where shooting him on the leg could be hazardous for me, I’d shoot him in the head, point-blank, from the back, no second thoughts, because that’s what he would do to me too, for a lot less.
Not bad. Try this on:
No, I was not trying to summon any sense of conscience you might have. Nor was I trying to point out that you should shower afterwards, or that the punishment shouldn’t fit the crime or anything like that. My point was that every situation is radically different, so that having a rather simple-minded "I will kill if x,x,or x happens" mentality can easily blend together two situations that might seem the same but are not.
You mention in your bio that you are athiest. But it sounds to me like the Law is your God. You talk about Law as if it were a fixed concept, not subjected to different periods of history, or different countries, or different situations. And these are just three factors among hundreds that can easily influence how people treat each other when a "crime" has been committed. .
You also mentioned in your bio that you are taoist, so you’ll understand how well the judicial system can fit into a taoist philosophy. When a judge (like you said) or a jury is brought in to sort out the specifics of any given crime, the very nature of what they’re doing adheres to this theory of radical differentiation. Each trial is different because each situation is different. So before you’re too quick to snuff someone who is running away from you, think twice about the specifics of that situation and what a jury might say about lethal force. If you’re unlucky you might not have time for that shower before you kiss your kids goodbye. |

Glad that was brought up, yerkamig!
Yeah, EVERYONE should have in mind that laws change with hystory itself. I also mention in my bio that, for instance, I’m re-writing a Federal Law for my graduation paper, because it no longer fits society’s needs.
I wouldn’t kill a robber ’cause he’s breaking the law, no, I’d do it because he’s going against my own convictions and certainties WHILE offending me physically, emotionally and patrimonially in the process. I wouldn’t kill a person who takes a fruit from my yard’s tree to eat, but when a person takes hold of a weapon, and decides to assault someone tor ob them, that person has crossed the second-to-last-line (the lst one is murder) in social behavior, so he must be ready to face the consequences. That being said, NEVER just go about shooting everything that moves, when I’m to carry a gun, I’ll take a shooting course, and a course on how to react to situations, in the army. THEN I’ll feel ready to actually draw a firearm and shot someone, knowing I won’t hurt or get hurt in the process. ANd that’s what I meant by shooting from the back. I’d never risk my life or the life of someone else over something so stupid as a wallet, a car, a piece of jewerly or such. But if I have the chance of shooting that person, and prevent that he or she eventually ends up shooting a working father of six for not wanting to let go of his wallet, with his whole month’s payment in it to feed his family, I’d do it in the blink of an eye, even knowing that man could ALSO be a father of six. Difference is, only one of them is crossing the borders. Call me cold-hearted if you like, but that’s just me, I AM cold-hearted. |
