im not botherd by second hand smoke (probably cause in albania every guy smokes 3 packs a day)but it will kill you if you smoke, im not condemming people that do, but you have to watch yourself on the other hend if you drink you must have a limit and make it not become an addiction or else you might as well flush your money down a toilet, i cant really say whats worse because they are both as bad

Drinking is worse. Drinking can wreck your life, your marriage, your relationships with friends, your mental health, and your physical health.

Smoking, on the other hand, might cause you to die a premature death, but it can’t wreck your life like alcohol can. The meaning of life isn’t in the bottom of a fifth of booze. Alcohol is not inherently bad. As Drake mentioned, wine is in the Bible. Jesus turns water into wine, and Paul also advises Timothy to "take a little wine for thy stomach."

But alcohol is by far the worse, in my opinion.

Yes, wine is in the Bible. But I think that it can easily become a point of stumbling. Scripture also says, "Do not be drunk with wine," and "Abstain from all appearance of evil."

With that, wine has its place. Medicinal only. And I would never take wine for medicinal purposes. But some people would.

But because wine has its place doesn’t mean its okay to drink. It is not.

NOW you’re wrong. It IS. If you’re old enough to do it legally, and if you do it in small dosis, of course. It’s legal in the law, in medical terms, in the Bible, well you name it! As you said, the Bible DOES post a useful lesson THIS TIME: "Do not be drunk with wine", it does not say ANYTHING about enjoying it once in a while or so. Wink
I don't like YOU.

drinking isn’t wrong. neither I think is smoking, but smoking can kill you so it IS stupid. drinking (as well as eating for that matter) is only wrong if done IN EXCESS drinking say a beer a day isn’t necessarily wrong, drinking 5 in an hour is. also drinking to forget your troubles probably is I would say(cause to forget your troubles you are probably going to have to drink a lot)

to sum it up
1. Smoking is stupid no wrong.
2, Drinking is only wrong if done in excess

Actually, SoP, I agree with you. Smoking is not inherently wrong, but its very detrimental.

It becomes wrong when,

A. It causes your brother to stumble.
B. It harms another human being. (second-hand smoke).

Wine becomes wrong when,

A. It is not used for the purpose it was created for (medicinal).

I voted smoking.

Smoking is wrong. Know why? It hurts you. You are putting a lot of chemicals into your body (including rat poison, and a few other things, I really can’t think of them right now), and those chemicals will cause you to die, slowly and painfully. Religiously, it’s wrong too. Your body is a temple. Smoking is defiling that temple. Something like that. Also, smoking is easier to get addicted to. It also hurts those around you. A lot. A friend of mine lost about half his immediate family to his dad’s smoking problem. Only after the emotional pain of a divorce, too.

Drinking, however, is not basically wrong. It’s OK to have a drink every once in a while (although, personally, I haven’t ever had alcohol, as that would be illegal, and never plan to, except on very special occaisons, such as wedding days). It can even be healthy, in moderation. I’ve been doing a good bit of research on this subject for a school project, so believe me. The problem starts when you start drinking to get rid of problems, or get hammered just because everyone else is. These behaviors repeat, and will cause addiction. Alcoholism hurts you and everyone around you. It causes car wrecks, child abuse, FAS, and tons of other things. Personally, I don’t think it’s okay to get drunk, a few drinks, maybe. Every now and then, only.

Ditto EL. He pretty much said everyone I would’ve said.

And I do have wine at Mass (being a Catholic), since we Catholics believe that the wine is indeed the Blood of Jesus but still retains it’s earthly characteristics.
