Yeah, I guess a maelstrom could have been calypso’s wrath, but after all, she is a goddess, is that all she can do? I thought she was gonna stand up out of the ocean and start wiping the floor with everyone, needless to say, I was let down... Sad Wink

Saw it yday and was well confused. Didnt follow all the treachery and double crossing and certainly didnt get the insane jack bits although it was funny. Calypso was confusing and pointless.

Funny but left the cinema saying wtf to myself.

PotC III is a great film. It was not all that confusing at all IMO. I loved the part inside Davy Jones’ locker. Great acting and special effects.

It is however nothing like the first movie. This movie has a plot, not a happy ending (finally a movie w/o happy ending). While the first had no story (or almost none) and was all about comedy and action. The characters had to be somehow evolved from the first and second movie so it think it is only fair to say that they did a great job keeping the hillarity of the previous ones, adding story and keeping it different (even though a lot of dialogues refer to the first 2 movies).

BTW did anyone catch the one phrase in Latin that Jack Sparrow says at the pirate board (meeting of pirate lords)?

In my experience I also do not trust the critics... here is why:
Read the paper, the paper gave the movie Snakes on a Plane four stars out of FOUR!!! Went to see the movie... TOTALLY dissapointed... I mean, it was what it was supposed to be like I guess, but I was thinking that since it was rated so highly there would be something really good about it and there wasn’t. It was quite a waste of money. On the other hand I went to see the movie The Prestige after hearing bad reviews and that it was worse than The Illusionist. Not so, not so! The movie rocked, I saw it twice more in the dollar theater and I now own it... so there’s my reasoning behind reviews... I trust only myself and my close friends who have seen the movie.

liked Pirates 3 quite a bit, but there were a couple things that bugged me (spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen it, stop reading!!!):

1. The fact that they never explain HOW Tia Dalma got Barbossa back from the grave
2. How they again made a slight reference to Jack and Becket leaving marks on each other (then the little shot of the Pirate branding on Jack’s wrist) but they never explained what Jack did to Becket
3. In the end I was a little confused about the whole deal with Will and Elizabeth... I mean if he only comes back every 10 years, he’s only gonna get like 3 nights with her until she is like 60 years old... eww.... Maybe she doesn’t age and he doesn’t either... part of the sorcery of the Dutchman perhaps...
4. Norrington was a chump... and a VERY inconsistent character... I mean in the second one he is like pure evil and they don’t even show that side of him in this movie... he was really wishy-washy and stupid if you ask me... heh, glad he died.

Other than that, I liked most of it. Barbossa get’s my vote for best character in general in the third one Smile

Oh, no no no... the first one is by far the best... there is no way another pirate movie will ever compare to the first. Definately the best acting by Depp, I mean it was golden, he should have won the oscar, and the story was the best by far as well. It’s a great stand-alone movie and didn’t need the sequels at all, though they are entertaining. And I have to disagree with The First too, because the first one has the BEST plot imo. The third one had too much plot but at least they tried, heh.

I agree with AL, the first was definately the best, but the third was my second favorite. Smile

I also agree with him on Barbossa.

*Spoiler* I loved that part when Will and Elizabeth ask Barbossa to marry them during the battle and Barbossa replies with "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..." while he is slashing and hacking enemies left and right. I just about wet myself on the spot. Smile

AL, we have the same opinions on this movie.

Moreover, i don’t trust the critics, because most of them said that LOTR was a boring movie. Sometimes i hate this family-friiendly thingy on this site, like this very moment. Or i would have said some bad words about them right now.

I saw it on Saturday, and the special effects were VERY impressive.

And to those who haven’t seen it yet: Sit through the credits. There’s a neat 1-minute clip. Thumbs Up
