Anyways I own the following guns and I have never killed anyone with them. Guns don’t kill people people kill people. How many people died in car accidents last year?
.22 Ruger Mark II pistol
.45 Taurus Millenium pistol
.22 & .20ga over and under rifle
.12ga pump New Haven
.12ga pump Benelli
30-30 Winchester Model 94
.22 Marlin 18 shot rifle
.308 Ex-police sniper rifle bought at an auction
People will always find a way to kill each other. Ban gun control.

| Dear lord, the most leathal weapon we are allowed over here is a steak knife! Of course, that doesn’t stop most of the residents in my city owning guns (Nottingham is the gun capital of the UK, commonly referred to as Shottingham) and I am incredibly opposed to Joe Public owning guns |

I certainly agree with all you NRA guys..after all I seriously doubt that guns cause even 25% as many injuries as car accidents do.
Yeah if you apply the logic, guns don’t cause violence any more than driver’s licenses cause casualties.

Yes but car accidents are just that, accidents. Gun crimes are not.
except liberty. and they realized that liberty was worth more that security. and that is what america was built on. and that’s what i believe. that liberty is more important, and more valuable, than security.
And that is what makes the Patriot Act and the whole Guantanamo situation so wonderfully and terrifyingly ironic. |

Yep, it’s a blessing to have freedom to bear arms compared to communist countries.
1. Guns make killing people a hell of a lot easier. Try doing a drive-by with a bow and arrow. It would be a lot harder (coming from someone who has hunted deer with both rifles and compound bows).
2. Cars serve a purpose other than killing. Many vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks) actually save lives. Guns do not save lives. Before you say that you need a gun to defend your home, keep in mind that you are 21 times more likely to be killed by a stranger in your home if you have a gun in it.
3. Gun control has nothing to do with communism. People in Russia had the right to bear arms (before the Glasnost), and the country was completely communist at the time.
But don’t be afraid of me. I can’t take guns away from the world. I’m just happy to live here, where I don’t have to worry about them so much anymore. I used to love owning guns (and you should see the arsenals that my uncles - one of them legally blind - possess). Before, I used these same exact arguments to justify keeping my guns. But I don’t miss them at all now. |

The problem is however, that if upstanding citizens have their guns taken away, crooks and ’bad guys’ will still have them/can get their hands on them. while upstanding citizens will not have them to protect themselves.
I would also like to point out how much guns have saved lives. If you look at any war and how many people were killed (WWII in specifics) by guns, then think of how many would have been killed had not people with guns fought back. The death number would have been catastrophic if America (and the allies) had not had guns to fight the Nazi’s.
guns kill, but also protect. A man goes into a store and opens fire, another man has a gun and shoots the origanal shooter. he saved who knows howmany lives...

You make a very valid point, ingold. It would be very difficult to ban guns in the States because guns are already so firmly entrenched there (as opposed to Britain, where the public was never allowed guns). I think that it is impossible to completely disarm America. But just because that’s the way things are, it doesn’t mean that it’s right. It just means that there’s nothing that can be done about it.
Your point about wars is also valid, but the issue is about guns belonging to the general public, as opposed to the military or police.
I get my food just fine without guns. I just pop down to the shops, and there’s the food, no guns involved! Sorry, just being cheeky.
It’s good to have a friendly debate without getting angry. I commend the people in this thread who have not gotten inflammatory about this controversial subject. |
