i’m not done with mine. it’s coming. i’m spending more and more time writing it, but it’s still a long way off. hopefully i can finish writing in a few months. we’ll see. but then, i have no idea how to get a publisher. so that could take a while.
as for tips, i have no idea. to tell you the truth, i’m not sure i’m that great of a writer. but to me, one of the most important things in a book is that it must have an original idea. or, present an old idea in a new way. the other thing is that if you want to finish writing a book, you must be very devoted to writing it. write every day if you can. even if it’s only for 5 minutes.
making an outline can be helpful as well. for some peoiple it is necesary for them to see where their story is going. for me, i figure out where it’s going as i write. but i find it’s easy to get stuck that way.
someone once said: you write the first draft with your heart, and the final draft with your head.

Not much I can say that mm didn’t say...except a couple of things...
Read, read, read! The best way to become a good writer is to read a lot, so that you can see how other writers do stuff. Lit was one of the classes that helped me the most when it came to thinking up plots or using literary devices.
Pay attention to detail. The more loving detail you put in there, the better your book is. Now, I didn’t say "describe everything to death", because detail isn’t always about description. Basically, think through things, and portray them in as much depth as you can.
Be persistent, and start with small goals. A short story is a lot less intimidating than a novel. Master a short story, so that you know how a plot flows, then you can move on to integrating complex subplots. |

ah yes. detail. character detail especialy. you want your readers to know your characters like one of their friends. to do that, you must know your characters like your own friends. you must know everything about them, even if it never is written in your book. some writers have conversations with their characters.
