As an American permanently residing in Britiain, I have to say that I really like it here! Like BOQ, I’ve had a few postal issues, and yes, many things are more expensive over here, but overall, this is a good place to be (NHS really makes a difference).
When walking through the countryside, I can see where Tolkien got his ideas for his books. It’s so easy to find ancient hillforts and castle ruins. Exploring such places, I try to imagine what it had been like for the people who lived there. I think of merchants with their carts and stalls, knights on horseback, archers manning the walls. Naturally, the imagination leads on to thoughts of trolls roaming the marshes and elves living in the woods.
That’s the great thing about Tolkien, he took these sorts of places and breathed his own imagination into them to create a world of his own. Brilliant.
The Silmarillion is packed with it. See, back on topic. Eventually. |

Ahh, you’re American? I wasn’t sure if you had previously lived in the Uk, moved to America and then moved back or not.
But you do live in Scotland which has really quite amazing countrysides. Unfortunately, where Tolkein would have walked before, drawing on nature and the beauty of his surroundings for his inspiration, is now a housing estate and a Tescos supermarket |

That’s sad, that the places where he walked are gone now. |

Well, it might not be, but given England’s love of not keeping the old and just forgetting about it so they can build depressing houses row after row that look the saame...that’s the sad part |

| To explain for all those who don’t know England we seem to be the preffered destination for every displaced person on the earth, the good standard of living, the welfare services and the health system all contribute to this (also we let a lot more people in unlike some country’s with more space which I shall not name here). To top all this we are a really small Island, and I mean really small, and a lot of the space is already taken so unfortunately our countryside is paying the price as more and more houses need to be built. |

Okay, I finally took the time to split this topic from the topic about the Silmarillion. You brits like to go off topic.
And speaking of brits, I know that some of you (lem0n mostly ) seem to occasionally use swear words more than the average American. I dunno if they aren’t as big in Britain as they are in the US, but it’d be cool if you guys could refrain from using words like f***, pi**, da**, ba**ard, and probably some others that I missed. There are some like "bloody" and "bugger" that aren’t really swear words here but IIRC they seem to be in Britain, so I personally don’t mind if you guys use them, but then again if any British are offended by the words then I’d have to ask you to stop using those words too.
Hey, I just had to get that off my chest. This site is populated by some younger members, so we should keep it all family-friendly.
Thanks,
