I thought this was a clue to the next victim...thus EL...

Shocked

I put it in an anagram solver, and every solution included "AD" at some point.

Question is, how does ANS relate to the clue? Incog says that the riddle itself is his respects to her.

Wait... idea coming. I’m going to go check something out.

Okay, I just hit something.

IT MAY NOT BE ANNA NICOLE SMITH!!!!

Anna Comnena, of Byzantium, a famous woman from the middle ages, who wrote The Alexiad.

The anniversary of ANS’s death is in April...
But the actual ANNIVERSARY of Comnena is April, when she married Nicephorus Bryennius. As far as I can tell, the exact day is unknown.

One of the first things she mentions in the preface to her book is darkness:
Anna Comnena wrote:

Time in its irresistible and ceaseless flow carries along on its flood all created things, and drowns them in the depths of obscurity, [also translated as darkness] no matter if they be quite unworthy of mention, or most noteworthy and important, and thus, as the tragedian says, "he brings from the darkness all things to the birth, and all things born envelops in the night."

As far as I can tell, all the translations use the word "darkness" at least once in those opening lines of her book. Actually, it looks like maybe she uses the words "dark" and "darkness" a lot in the book.
Also, her son(?) was crowned emperor on April 4th, if the exact date is relevant.
It’s a bit of an obscure reference; as far as I know, I’m the only person with a reasonable likelyhood of getting that. I don’t know if anyone else here has a fascination with medieval texts, and I tend to prefer Northern European. Given that, it may be too obscure to be an accurate interpretation, but....

Anna Comnena.
A.C.
AC

Interesting thought, anyway. I suggest that one of us protect AC, and someone protect el, but we keep trying to figure it out, because I’m really not convinced of either of these.

I’ve spent some time today trying to find other potential "Anna"s as well, trying to find one linked to darkness, and I think I hit the same one you did earlier but breezed right by it. I found a film with Anna Paquin, a play called Anna In The Darkness, a couple promising books, but nothing that ties everything together as neatly as your find.

Dude. Shocked That makes total sense. It’s brilliant, even if it turns out to be wrong.

I doubt it is, though. You have my axe...I will protect AC. Thumbs Up

*goes to study up more on Anna Comnena and The Alexiad*

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

I’ve received information vie PM which I may not share, or else someone gets blown to pieces. Or something like that, anyway.

Based on this info, I’ve been looking further, and it might be me. I’m not sure how much of my reasoning I can reveal without pushing Incog’s patience too far, but I will say that if you take "eh’ darkness is like a forte," several anagrams within certain restrictions include "Drake." Even so, what I’ve been able to find still doesn’t quite make sense, but I’m now fairly sure AC and el are both wrong.

I’ll keep looking.

I’ll continue to protect AC for now, as I really like the way that fits, but I recommend someone else protect Drake. The fact that many anagram solutions seem to include him and the Anna Comnena seemed to be targeted towards HIM solving it makes him a pretty likely target. I certainly think he’s much more likely than EL, whose connection is tenuous at best.

Anna may not be a person at all. I cannot go into more detail than that, but I have it on good authority that we may be on the wrong track entirely.

Unfortunately, I was hit by a rather important school-related revelation over the weekend and my time is going to be pretty scarce for the next few days, and certainly for today. I’ll devote what time I can, but I may not be able to contribute much more than this.

The most promising possibilities I can come up with are Anna Karenina the famous novel noted for its groundbreaking style, and an odd link I found here, which refers to a horse and "Anna’s Anniversary". Can’t think of how either of those are particularly helpful, though. Note that the latter is from back in 1938.

So... Anna might be a horse?

Horses are almost donkeys which are....

It’s Lem0n and NB! Razz

Seriously, though. I think you’re right that Anna’s not a person, which is part of why I was looking at anagrams. Interestingly, as Incognito, I played Phantom of the Opera. Phantom focuses alot around "music of the night" darkness, etc. and makes sense with "Darkness forte (music)" and "Darkness forte (strength)". One of my listed interests is Literature, and anagrams including Drake and under other restrictions which I cannot name, can include "Lit" as well.

Again, hate to be self-centered, but I think it is me. I’ll protect el just in case, as I can’t seem to find any other possibilities. I was thinking it might be Dain, but my logic there fell through pretty badly when I checked. He should be safe.
