A shadow in the dark flitted across a deserted neighborhood. It was the dead of night; the lights in each house were off. Except for one. This was the house towards which I was creeping. A silhouette was outlined in the light of one of the windows. Quickly, I drew my rifle’s sights to my eye, but too late, A shadow passed across the window; the figure moved away and the curtains were drawn. I was expected. I crept around to the other side of the house, I heard movement inside. Another window, another figure... a gunshot rang out over the neighborhood. I stared solemnly down at the bullethole between my feet. It was time to leave...

The agent within the house lowered his shotgun and breathed a sigh of relief. He flashed a thumbs-up to the figure seated in the corner of the room. Ingold55 let go a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. He was safe.

Another town, another house, another lighted window. Here, however, I doubted there would be much protection. Clues I had left them, but they hadn’t been able to solve any... or had they? No shotguns here, I would have to be more stealthy in my approach. Slowly I crept to the back door, and fiddled for a moment with my lockpics. The door swung inward with little noise, it was just as I had suspected. No shots rang out, no knives were pointed in my general direction. It was the best I could have hoped for; no one had discovered the identity of my victim. I drew a dagger, painted black, from its velvet sheath. I heard movement upstairs, I crept, on tiptoe, up the stairway. No lights appeared to be on, but something glowed inside the room. Cautiously, I risked a look. It was a computer screen, internet open, to a site called Cobracards. I knew that my victim lurked nearby, but he was nowhere to be seen. I heard a creak, a movement up the stairs.

Sickofpalantirs returned to his room, cold soda in hand. For a moment he halted, he felt a disturbance in the air. He looked around, there was no one to be seen. With a shrug, he returned to his computer. The newest DC post was pulled up, and with a sigh, he started his usual review.

I droped from the ceiling with catlike grace, landing without so much as a whisper on the carpeted floor. Knife in hand, I crept forward. I grabbed his hair, jerked back his head. There was no ’flash of steel’, my knife was blacked. He tried to scream, but no sound emerged. His throat was cut. The last look upon his face wasn’t terror, but merely suprise, and recognition. I let his body fall back, to lie bleeding on the floor. No need to clean up the mess, surely there were services for that. I left via the window.

At least, I thought, the next death was not preventable...

A final house, a final light, a final room. This one was just as easy to break as the last, for there was no way they could have known I was coming. As I came through the door to the lighted room, I saw the very DC post that SoP was dying to review. A slight smirk crossed my face. Ah, irony. The inhabitant of the room, swiveled in his chair, face unsurpised. From beside him he drew a knife, a switchblade. Surely he had been carrying it since he became a cop on my case. Admirable though his preparation was, it didn’t matter. My thrown dagger cought him between the eyes. He let out a half-scream, cut off as his throat was cut. I cleaned my blackened blade again. I also pulled the knife from his forehead. No need to leave any trails. I left by the front door this time. I like variety. But not too much.

I also left Elf Lvr to bleed upon the floor.

The clue was a cipher, from the book the Return of the King. It would have spelled out "Number One Hundred Seventeen." SoP is One Hundred Seventeenth on the member list. Simple as that.

Since you failed to identify my victim this time, I won’t leave another clue to my identity. However, a NEW clue to my next victim will be left for your scrutiny tomorrow or the next day. Until then, enjoy the mystery.

Whoa, interesting turn. I wasn’t expecting that...

Why EL? He wasn’t doing anything really...he arrested me and that’s it. Laughing Surely he didn’t pose a threat.

Well...I’ll update the officer’s roster with a KIA.

After the killings.

A memorial service was held for the two dead guys. The bodies were sent to the morgue for examination, so there wasn’t a burial.

Sickofpalantirs family immediately filed a lawsuit against the CobraCards police department for $6.7 billion, claiming incompetence and misuse of evidence, stupidity, ignorance, pain and suffering and mental anguish. In the 15 year legal battle that ensued, the family lawyer, Felipe Musco, esq. made a small fortune off legal fees until the Supreme Court declared the case frivolous, the official transcript reading "you gotta be kidding...throw them out NOW!". Felipe Musco is currently facing disbarment for pursuing a frivolous lawsuit, and unethical bar practices, after which he plans to retire to his private South Sea Island with his private yacht and jet.

Elf lvr’s family also sued for "failure to use psychic powers," but got thrown out at the county courthouse. The lawyer, Carpe Guitarrem, also faces disbarment and is currently residing under a bridge in NYC.

Incognito, however, continues to elude the police department, who have not yet discovered anything related to the identity of the mystery assassin.

True, but killing off someone like mm would take the fun out of it. I’ve got to start at the bottom and work my way up.

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz

Actually, I’m not really disbarred yet. All the news clipping said was that I was "facing" disbarment. That’s a good deal different from actually being disbarred, you know. I’m in the legal profession, I should know. Not to mention that I debated...

I am not disbarred yet!
