Here’s a little something I wrote up for Pippin’s Parley.
I’ll post it in the DC forum if a mod wants to sticky it.
From a DC maker to another, I thought I would give a few tips on the creation of DCs.
One, format. The generally used DC format is something like this.
[twilight cost] •Title, Subtitle [Culture]
Card Type • Class
Strength:
Vitality:
Resistance/Signet:
Keywords
Text/Abilities
Lore
Rarity
Lore and rarity are of course, optional, but enhance the card. Rarity is generally used if the DC is part of a DC set.
Creating a Good DC
When making a DC, be creative! Have fun with it, and don’t let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do. Create a crazy mechanic, loaded keyword, or an unloaded keyword that pulls a DC set together towards a common theme.
However, don’t go too crazy. If you cram 2 or 3 game text and 3 or 4 special abilities into one card, it may get kind of cluttered. Rule of thumb, if it can’t fit on a real card, trim it down. Also, balance a card. If a card is to overpowered, you may have reviewers screaming "BROKEN! BROKEN!" down your neck. Ask yourself, is this a card that would be fair to play against? Also avoid underpowered cards. If you create a 3 cost minion with 5 strength and 2 vitality with a small special ability, nobody would use it! Tweaking the twilight cost can bring a card from underpowered to balanced very easy. Who wants to use a strength 7 vitality 1 minion that requires you to spot a Uruk and control a site? Nobody. But when its twilight cost is 0, suddenly you find a very high demand for the card.
Try to find a balance between overpoweredness and underpoweredness. Reviewers can help with this a lot.
Also, try not to make an overabundance of bland cards. This includes cards that are simply raw stats, strength modifiers, and strength pumps, with little special ability. These cards belong only in DC sets. Otherwise, it simply bores the reviewers. Try to think of a new and creative idea for a DC, and make it fun to read and critique.
But most of all, have fun.
With that, happy DCing!

this is good, but specially it’d be good to write something about how dc contests work. I can work something out and let you know what you think, then we can make it sticky on the DC forum.
I’ll think about ideas I think are cool to make a better integration with new users and then you tell me wether you think it will help a little or not |
If you have a MW Éomer, Horsemaster, please let me know what you want for it |

tOO beat you to it by over a year and a half.
But a new one wouldn’t hurt, especially with the Creating a Good DC tips added. |
