Hey thanks AD! I was puzzled over this clue even before the ODE clue. I was looking at first letters and every other word etc... but there didnt appear to be a key to unlocking the text. So maybe it was a straight forward solve the answer to get the victim.

If not ive spent far too long googling cathedral and chile and not come up with an answer.

Curses. I knew my holiday cheer and generosity would get me into trouble.

As I surveyed lem0nhead’s home this morning I found a contingent of officers stationed around the perimeter, led by that cursed agent, Drake.

Very well. lem0nhead may live. For now.

But no more Mr. Nice Guy.

I still managed to sneak up to the house unnoticed and slipped a note under the door. It reads:

GURVE PNCGNVA JNF ONEQ TEVZ-IBVPRQ NAQ TEVZ-SNPRQ JUBFR SEVRAQF UNQ NPPHFRQ UVZ BS CEBCURFLVAT SYBBQF NAQ CBVFBARQ SVFU GUBHTU GURL XARJ UVF JBEGU NAQ PBHENTR.

No long deadline this time: you have 13+13 hours. This is so simple that even your turkey-stuffed selves should be able to figure it out by then.

If not, history will repeat itself.

Sincerely,
Incognito

2 things strike me about this clue. That its a letter replacment clue with the key quite possibly related to the 13+13. Is it as obvious answer as 26? Whats the relevance?

Second is that he said "history will repeat itself" so presumably someone who has been targeted before or killed before will be the next victim. Could be wrong though it could mean a lot of other stuff.

Is this one of those code riddles that el, mm and Nk know how to solve but i still dont?

Ive tried replacing the ltters with 1 letter up and down in the alphabet but that doesnt help maybe its more?

Try 13 letters up or down.

I’ll try to figure it later. For now, I’m getting ready to go stuff myself with that turkey Incog mentioned.

AD is correct, I’m about a third of the way through it. I’ll post it soon. It’s a quote about Bard of Dale.

EDIT: Here it is, un-punctuated, just as it was given...

their captain was bard grim-voiced and grim-faced whose friends had accused him of prophesying floods and poisoned fish though they knew his worth and courage

I don’t have The Hobbit with me, so I don’t know how it’s correctly punctuated, but there it is. Any thoughts? I don’t remember...who is it that’s doing a Hobbit DC set?

EDIT Again: Thranduil’s been doing his Hobbit DCs, I forgot about that. I protect Thranduil. Although I suspect this may be a trickier clue than that.

Laughing Who wants to bet that we missed something obvious?

Oh well. We’ll find out.

Happy Thanksgiving, Killer!

Edit:
And "history repeating itself": Dain was killed after Brand died, right?

You give me far too much credit. I’m flattered.

My clue was much simpler than that....

This morning, at the home of Dáin Ironfoot, I found the contingent of officers that I had expected, though I was surprised there were not more. Then I remembered that others were off protecting Thranduil. I smiled. Not only had I fooled everyone once, but TWICE on this morning.

I crept slowly around the house, scanning for my target from cover. Waiting until no other officers were around, I revealed myself, acting casual.

"Oh, it’s you!" NBarden had said. "You scared me."

"Not enough, it seems," I replied.

His look of confusion turned to horror as I pulled out my knife and stabbed him, covering his mouth so he could not make a sound. I dragged him a short distance away, and I’m sure you all found him shortly thereafter.

If you are still not clear on my clue, I will explain it. The message was correctly decoded but it’s interpritation was not, unfortunately for Mr. Barden. Really, I thought that would be an easy one. As I have said before, you give me too much credit. But now we are back to five officers, as things should be.

As for the history repeating itself? I knew that NBarden would recognize me as a friendly face, just as Julius Caesar did not suspect his friend Brutus until it was too late. Just as Caesar was stabbed by an ally, so now has NBarden. The code you decripted was, after all, a simple Caesar cipher.

Perhaps the holiday feasts have clouded your minds, hm? I will make this next one easier on you. In fact, I will even tell you my next victim’s name: it is derived from the hand of Ag. They have been tormented before by one even I fear, but I am not as cruel as that lord: I will make their death quick.

You have the weekend to protect him or her. On Sunday afternoon, they die.

Time is ticking....
