As for the clue, Ag is the symbol for silver. i.e., somebody who had a silver hand. Tormented by someone...was there someone who lost a hand in torture, and then had it replaced by a silver hand? All I can think of is an obscure story about a kid named Otto who went through that.

Not sure what the "brimbor" part means, but "Cele" is silver.
And Celebrimbor, IIRC, was tormented by Sauron after the rings were made. |

Once again, a pox upon thee, AgentDrake.
Celebrimbor was indeed my target. As you all deduced, Ag is the symbol for the chemical element known as silver. Celebrimbor translates to "hand of silver" in Sindarin, and he was, indeed, tortured by Sauron...to his death.
