One thing I still don’t get, though. In the RotK movie, when the Rohirrim are charging the Orcs at Minas Tirith, Gothmog yells "Fire at will!" Now, I’d like to know: who is Will, and what was he doing at Minas Tirith? |

There was an error in the scripts. Apparently, Orlando bloom was looking through an early draft of the Pirates of the Caribbean script at the time, and thought it would be funny to put some lines into LotR.
So what Gothmog actually means is "Fire at the elf who is played by the same guy who might play a guy named Will in another movie with pirate ships even though he (the guy who plays the elf/Will) isn’t here yet, and is messing around on a pirate ship which is not the pirate ship that he ’will’ be messing around on!"
...or not. |

Or perhaps will was a reference to the document in which Denethor entitled who all his estates were left to, and Gothmog wanted it destroyed so HE could claim he was the heir to Denethor’s estates, and thus the rightful successor in the line of stewards.
The improper grammar makes it highly likely that this scenario is true, since when did orcs start using proper grammar?
Also, Gothmog could not personally know anyone in Minas Tirith by the name of Will, and thus could not have been intending to shoot a person named Will. Even if he had known such a person, Orcs, as a rule, never refer to humans by a nickname, making it even more probable that the will being fired at was really a document. |
