| Well, arachniphobia would be a fear of arachnids, so I’m thinking this is fear of a specified arachnid. |

Okay, I’ll attempt to get this thread back on track...
I’ll give a couple LOTR quotes to support my viewpoint. The first one is a quote that directly concerns Shelob’s fate:
"Shelob was gone; and whether she lay long in her lair, nursing her malice and her misery, and in slow years of darkness healed herself from within, rebuilding her clustered eyes, until with hunger like death she spun once more her dreadful snares in the glens of the Mountains of Shadow, this tale does not tell." (The Two Towers, The Choices of Master Samwise)
So this clearly indicates that Shelob may very well have lingered in the Mountains of Shadow, and survived for many years. I don’t think Sam was capable of killing Her. On to a second quote, which addresses the argument that Sauron’s destruction destroyed Shelob.
"But still she was there, who was there before Sauron, and before the first stone of Barad-Dur; and she served none but herself, drinking the blood of Elves and Men..." (The Two Towers, The Choices of Master Samwise)
This shows that Shelob was not in any way linked with the fate of the Ring. She was evil, but an evil that is independent of Sauron. All she cared for was to consume and devour. The Ring had neither hold nor gain for her. And so she lived even when it was unmade.
There is also a third argument that Elessar ordered the destruction of Shelob. Although this is likely, I do not think he would have succeeded. I can’t find the quote now, but after the fighting and everything, we hear that Minas Morgul was razed, but that no man could enter it until many, many years later. By that time, Shelob would have been hidden away deep in her lair, inaccessible to all. |

Excellent, CG! I was going to look up those excerpts, but I was too lazy to do it.
I agree with CG completely in this matter. |

CG has a very good concept here but one is built on unsteady ground.
True, Shelob was not linked to the fate of the Ring, but even so, all evil was virtually wiped out after the WotR.
With no vision, she couldn’t very well hunt and find prey. And since the Ring was destroyed, it is definitely assured that all Orcs, Uruks, and other inhabitants of the Cirith Ungol pass would be destroyed. Therefore, Shelob would have no means of sustenance. Even though she did primarily live off Men and Elves, that was a backup plan if no Elves or Men came along. So, her backup food source would have been cut off. So, since there were no remaining Orcs and Uruks to inhabit the Cirith Ungol area, Elves and Men could easily explore unhindered. Thus, it is quite easy to believe that a small band of Elves could have wiped her out. Remember, Sting and the Light of Earendil were saved, both of which Shelob hated. If these tools were used again, by ones or more power than Sam, the killing of Shelob would have been a quickly accomplished task. |

| I think Shelob could have hunted, even without eyes. Vision is not a spider’s strong point, he uses other senses for primary hunting. But, I do think she may have been weak, therefore causing her to be suceptible to enemies, but then also it might have caused her to delve deeper in her layer, going places no man would dream of going, (or elf, or dwarf etc....) |

| Maybe Shelob left and hunted else where? or just went on a rampage through middle earth? or just died. |
