You know, it occurs to me that the only reason many of you believe the Bible is true is because you were brought up to believe that.

If you never went to church and your parents never taught you anything about religion, you would think the Bible is just another work of fiction.

Something to think about.

maybe. but isn’t that the case for most religions?

also some people grow up in kinda bad home situations but become christions leter in life.

As I said before, I don’t think the Bible is NOT true, but it’s not ENTIRELY. Mainly because it speaks through metaphores (if you study it deeply, you’ll see what I mean), and because it contains the impressions and phantasies imprinted in the mind of the Apostoles (I’m pretty sure I mispelled that...).
And SoP is right, most religions DO follow some patterns. When I say I studied both sides, I actually read and studied Bibles of A LOT of different religions, AND works saying that’s not true, so I could come up with my opinion.
As I said, I’m forced to believe SOME kind of supernatural phenomena (be it "God"m Pangermanism or whatever) brought the Universe about, simply because NO explanation so far, besides the ones in the Bibles (all of them), could have actually happened, so, in this fashion, they’re ok by me. Also, as I said before in a thread where we discussed a bit of Quantum Physics, the so called "miracles" ARE, in a scientifical way, possible Shocked (yes, they are), but Jesus himself and the other "miracle-workers" would HAVE to be of a "superior" nature (call it divine, evolved, mutant or alien) to actually condition their minds so that their bodies could physically BELIEVE that, for instance, walking on water WAS possible, so that they could pull it off.
But, AFTER studying both sides, and since I’m not exactly very keen on religion, so I can have a neutral position, I’ve had A LOT of data to produce my opinion, and that’s waht I said in the beggining. OF COURSE The Da Vince Code is a fiction novel, if it were not, the author would have made the biggest discovery of mankind yet, and he’d be sure to PROVE it, so he could collect his Nobel Prize later. However, as I said, he DOES have some (actually, a lot of) truth in his work, since he studied it pretty hard. The Bibles (every single one of them) contains some undenyable truth in it, however, they are not a history book, more of a rather different kind of novel, so, IMHO, the poll is incomplete, since NONE of them are, in fact, true. They do contain their own truths, some of them bulletproof, some depending on faith and beliefs, but they’re not entirely "true".

Sorry, SoP, but considering your age, and the many years you’ve been homeschooled, and, thus, bound to your faith, is something that compromises your opinion, AND I don’t really think you’ve done that much study as I did on the subject, since you probably never doubted it.
However, religions were created to serve a purpose (I won’t tell it so no more arguments will arise), and it seems it works fine for you, so, just be happy in whatever fashion you think it’s appropriate. I don’t know if you have this where you live, but here in Brazil, lately, a lot of "new" religions have appeared, and all of them are just a cover for taking money of people, behind the "shield of faith". THESE religions, I do NOT respect AT ALL, but the other ones, the ones around for a LONG long time, I do. I, for instance, like SOME things from SOME religions, so I’m getting married in a Church, with all the religious vows, since I think it’s a nice thing, but I’m a Taoist myself, maybe a Deist, but not a catholic anymore. I think my Church has shed enough blood for it to be Holy. And, as I sais, most of them did the same thing...

Do you think that for now on, we could stick to lighter subjects, just so that nobody has any grudges? I think it would be for the best.

If you read my post above, you would know that I said that the earth has a self-replenishing mechanism known as climate change and ice age. It’s a natural phenomenai/process that revitalizes the earth, thus the "energy" may decrease, but at some point, it is reset, and earth begins again from practically scrath. It’s just a big cycle.
I’m not talking on an earthly scale, but on a universal scale. Over an infinite amount of time.
