All right guys, the recent trends in elaborate signatures are amusing and all, but they’re really getting in the way. The animated avatars are annoying enough when you’re trying to concentrate, without being accompanied by so much random, brightly-colored text that the length of the page is doubled.
"Enhanced Signature Privilege" will be added to the Forum Shop soon, and I’ll warn you right now that the "enhanced" version will probably be similar to what’s available now. The "basic" version will probably be a much smaller number of characters, with no colors and no images. (Although I think quotes and links will be allowed.)
This will doubtless make a few folks unhappy, but I’m far more interested in keeping our forums useful and legible than in hosting a bunch of billboards. |

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. |

Yeah, I’d really like to make animation part of the Enhanced Avatar package too. We’ll see...

Simply look at another user’s profile (using the "profile" button at the bottom of each post for example), and you’ll see any special items that person has as icons there. Doesn’t do a whole lot right now since we’re just getting started with the whole shop thing, but it may become more interesting in the future.
(Also, basic avatar/signature privilege and custom ranks/titles don’t have a special icon, since it’s obvious whether or not a user has them anyway.) |
