I’ll be the first to admit that my perception of Brazil was "stereotypical" in the sense that I was amazed to see Brazilian people online - and typing coherent English.
And that’s not meant to be offensive in any way, shape or form. I live in Kansas, the most Middle-of-Nowhere place in the US, and possibly the world. The only formal education I’ve ever had regarding Brazil is that it’s "in South America, which is below us and above Antarctica."
I think I can speak for the entire country when I say our knowledge of other places is inherently limited to geography and generalizations. First and foremost on the list of Countries We Really Know Nothing About is Canada. Even though I know this is false, my brain still tells me Canada is one giant tundra, and that Canadians live in igloos.
It’s a pity that our educational system has failed as miserably as it has, and I can only dread the day when my generation begins to "lead" the world.
My point is this: Don’t necessarily be upset with the individual for being uninformed about your country. Yes, yes, it’s true that anyone is free to educate themselves, but it’s hard to learn the truth about something when you don’t know you’ve been taught a lie. |

Oh, by no means, we cleared that out. But I was talking about elf lvr about some things, and I thought it’d be cool to keep this going... for future reference. What this means, well, you’ll just have to wait and see!
But keep on tuned, then, to learn some more nice stuff when I get some free time again! |

The problem is since Brazil is not considered a 1° world country the midia think that’s a GREAT IDEA talk only about the worse of our country. An example? Almost all midia outside the US only talk about the US with one word: war. Is that all that United State means? OF COURSE NOT!!!!! Every time the something happens in Germany the midia insist in mention that Germany was the theater of a massacre. That Africa only has HIV. This is wrong. This is the most horrible thing to do with people. BUT the midia sells tragedy and that kind of thing that I hate.
This is not right. you seem to be confused... no offense to felipe but if your gonna start a thread named "Learn about Brasil" there should be some actual things we can learn about rather than 20 great things about it. It’s as biased as the media that you dissapprove of so greatly. Rather than focusing on the bad he is focusing on the good... which just leads to another type of deception which is completely different yet complimentary to each other. So if you want us to learn about Brasil, actually tell us some facts that aren’t bias...
This basically says Brasil is an amazing place and nothing is wrong with it. USA is an amazing place and I could come up with a good list of reasons why but if i wanted to teach someone about it, I certainly wouldn’t leave out any of the bad qualities. If this wasn’t the case, we should all move.... then I can complete my life long goals of owning a helicopter and living in an urbanized city near a rainforest which I admire from a far but never actually approach it.
Good words but it was not Fm that wrote that quote above your post. Am I confused? Just to stop this silly thing, Brasil is an amazing place JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THIS PLANET. I have 1000 reasons to live AND LOVE my country that same way that you have to do with your that corvus has and so on. The difference here is the fact that I won’t tell that my country is best because your country is worst. FM just showed to you and everyone here things or facts or all the heck you wanna call about Brazil that midia hardly show. If the fact that we brazilians lives in a good country botter you physcosick, I’m really sorry for you.
I was very aware that it wasn’t Felipe who I quoted... I quoted it afterall... and it does say your name on the top. It doesn’t bother me that you think u live in a better country. Thats fine. I dont agree and I dont disagree. All I can say is it is very easy to say your country is awesome when you are one of the more privledged people.
If I was a bum living on the streets, begging for money, living in a cardboard box keeping warm in the winter by insolating my clothes with newspapers, etc, etc. Can;t get a job cause no one will hire me, with good reason, can’t get anymoney because everyone assumes I will go spend it on alcholol. Etc etc etc... If i was one of those people, I don’t see how it is possible for me to say "I love this country... USA... the land of opportunity.".
So thats what I wanted to get out of this. You have to address things like this from both perspectives to understand the circumstances and the society better. If you don’t understand that I’m afraid to say there is something wrong.
So just to make myself clear. I am not making fun of your country. I’m not saying USA is better nor vice versa. I’m just saying you have to look at both sides (good and bad) so your not blinded (and therefore we as your perspective students) by your own patriotism. |

To physcosick:
Funny, cause that was the meaning of all. That was what I was telling to you. There’s 2 side of a history. The popular midia always shows the worst. We trying shows the other one. I doesn’t wanna offended you. And in any line of my explanation I said that my country is best that yours of that any other, I just said that is MY COUNTRY. Full of bad and great things.
I’m a patriot like almost everyone, but I’m not BLIND.
Don’t think that I’m upset because that things that you said or I said. I don’t. And do you know why? Because this kind of talk always makes our world a better place.

Is really nice to be honest with other and with yourself. We all have some "stereotypical" thoughts about other cultures, that’s normal |

lol yeah, no kidding.
I’m sure you’ve got plenty of ideas about the normal Kansan (I’d love to hear them, too. I’d bet that most of them are accurate heh). |

| I’m actually looking forward to moving away from the east coast when I get out of college and move to Colorado. There I’ll be traveling around, very much so in Kansas, chasing them tornadoes. So thats my image of Kansas... me trying not to die. |

Well, around here in the Midwest, tornadoes *do* happen... but they aren’t really threatening anymore.
The cities run their tornado sirens every Monday afternoon, and every building has some kind of shelter. There hasn’t been a Tornado-related death here in a good long while. We’re ready for them, and I remember back in high school actually wishing for them so I wouldn’t have to go to school.
Hehe. Chasing them would be fun! |

Accually, I’m a Geography buff, but I’m a horrible speller, so it sort of evens out as generally ignorant, I spell worse than foreign excange students. |
