I have always wanted to learn martial arts, but because of our finances, I haven’t been able to do it. ( I have read books about it!)
So please post if you are doing martial arts, are love talking about it. |

Hi Glamdrim, as I said in other thread I’ve learned kung fu since I was 13 years old. I stopped when I was 21. Then I learned jiu-jitsu for 2, 3 years (but I’m not that kind of jiu-jitsu fighters, huge and full of muscle!)
I’m thinking starts Ken-jutsu or Ninjitsu next year, but I’m not sure.
I’ll love to talk about it if you want to Glamdrim! |

There was a free month trial at this Karate place when I was a kid. I went there, got my uniform and went to one session.... I was about 8.
I never went back to it after the first night.... I didn’t want to do karate... I just wanted to get my White Belt so I could have a replacement for my House Coat belt that I ripped. |

I know the basics about karate and kung-fu, but I’m no master at it. I know three styles of tai-chi chuan, although I’m not familiar with the names themselves, see, my father is a master, so I learned from him kinda all at once, I KNOW they’re three different styles, but I mix them together all the time, and can’t really tell the difference.
Nowadays I also practice kendo, kenjutsu and ninjutsu, and I have about 6 different katanas. Actually, five, and a shinai (that bamboo sword for practice). |

I’ll leave kung fu for taipan to explain, as he’s the master in it. Do you know what a katana is? It’s that EXTREMELY sharp sword the japanese samurais used to wield. Well, Kendo is an "olimpics" version of that fightning style, as you have some rules for striking, and etc... It basically gives you the basics. Kenjutsu is what the samurais actually knew, it’s fightning with a katana. I can actually fight with two now, one in each hand, although in my left hand I still use a Wakizashi, which is a smaller sword.
Ninjutsu is the style of the ninjas, it teaches you about close-range combat, about killing in one blow (they WERE assassins, remember?) and teaches you to use all sorts of nice stuff, like shurikens (those ninja stars you throw), smoke rice-bombs, and etc. Kenjutsu also teaches you about meditation, and chanelling energy to your blows, making them fewer and more powerful. |
