Hey all, just checking in to see how our mod staff is doing!
I’ve been a little out-of-touch lately, dealing with the new game additions and busy card shop, and I’d like to get some feedback from you guys to help me continue to improve these forums.
I’m pretty happy with things from where I’m sitting, but have two suggestions/reminders to make:
1) There’s still a tendency for threads to wander off-topic, or to be placed in the wrong forum to begin with. Don’t hesitate to remind the user(s) in question about this, or to move or split threads as appropriate.
2) I’m developing a pet peeve for thread titles that don’t say anything, like "hey" or "help" or "my deck," or that are all lower-case, misspelled, etc. These sorts of things hurt our appeal to new members, make it harder to find information, and get in the way of good search engine indexing to boot. Just another pesky little thing to file in the back of your mind, and fix when you see it.
I’d also like to get a better idea of what each of you is doing in your capacity as moderator. At your convenience, reply and tell me what you find yourself doing most often -- Reading? Writing? Answering questions? Editing posts? Keeping threads on-topic? Removing spam? (And for these and any other activities, in which forums are you most active?)
Also, if there’s anything on that list you don’t do, or forums you don’t generally visit, let me know that as well. Be honest, I won’t hold it against you. I need this information to get a better idea of how forum policies are working, and what "holes" need to be filled.
Thanks!

I haven’t done much in my capacity as a mod lately, other than the occasional spambot. Thankfully, those seem to have gone away.
I patrol the boards a few times a day and look for anything out of whack and respond accordingly. I answer questions on the gameplay board and try to give people not only the answer to their question, but how I came up with that answer. |

I mainly find myself helping more with cards than forum stuff. I tend to be the guy to see with rules questions/deck help etc., but I really don’t do much in the way of moderating forums. I just don’t have many people to keep in line |

I’ve been active in every LOTR forum, besides the RPG section. Sometimes just reading, but I also reply to posts, start new topics, remove spam, move topics, and fix up general mistakes.
I’ve been semi-active in the Member’s Lounge, but not as active as I’ve been in the LOTR forums.
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to try and archive a bunch of decks; I’ve slacked off in that area and haven’t done any in a while.

As far as my capacity as a mod here, I find that recently I have mostly been doing a lot of reading (and some posting when appropriate). I have generally been spending most of my time in the Members’ Lounge making sure that all the threads there stay at least somewhat on topic (kind of hard given the free-for-all nature of the board), cleaning up or locking threads that start to get nasty and making sure that everything is "family friendly". I don’t participate too much, but do make my presence known from time to time.
I usually get on about once to twice a day once in the mornings and once in the evenings, although with work being crazy recently that has been a bit difficult.
I also read through all of the posts in the LotR everything else, Gameplay questions and Riddle Game forums. I generally don’t look at the Trade, Dream Card or RPG forums as I don’t really have anything to do with those. As I have somewhat stepped away from LotR as a game (it just doesn’t excite me the way that it did say a year ago) I don’t visit the Deck Design forums much either.
I feel somewhat slack in what I’m doing, but I hope that I am contributing and keeping CC a family friendly community.

Recently, I have had a much heavier academic workload than usual; accordingly, I have not been active on this site for weeks. My apologies to my fellow moderators and Mr. Brace; I hope to be more active in the future. |
