I was just wondering if you can post which TCGs you know how to play. Post if you like them or not, and which one your favorite is. Knowing just the basic concept does count.
Mine-
Battletech- Very Limited. Never played it, but I bought a starter deck at a garage sale for $0.10, so I can’t go wrong there. I read the rules and it seems easy enough...It seems like a good game
Redemption CCG- Never played it, but I’ve seen it played and read the rules. Very complex game, probably as much or more so than LotR...Definitely a good game.
Yu-Gi-Oh- Limited. Seen it played, never read the rules. Hated it, but know how to play slightly. Terrible game.
LOTR TCG- Very thorough knowledge of the game, I regularly lose, but that’s not because of an absence of skill as an absence of good cards. Its embarrassing to see your Dwarves with a Frodo RB get knocked out with tentacles , when you have a great three hunters deck, complete with healing, built in strength pumps, and damage +4 elves sitting in your deck-builder on the computer just taunting you to make a triple move with that Radagast you don’t have... |

What if the hokey pokey really IS what its all about?

He said the Y-word!
LOTR, and I’m developing a couple of CCGs, so I’ll count those as well. |

Magic: The Gathering My first card game that I learned... I never really understood the banding confusion, but I’ve always been odd. I’m nowhere near great, especcially with not knowing quite a few of the newer keywords, but I’ve given some of the better players around here a good game.
Star Wars CCG (Decipher’s) I’ve played it, and understand it on the most basic level. I think I made it about halfway through my first game with a fan.
OverPower Understand some of it, and have a few cards, but have never played. A lack of cards has prevented me from learning further.
MECCG Love this - could be considered to Middle-earth what LOTR TCG is to Lord of the Rings. I think this is probably my favorite at a more ’story-telling’ type card game.
Pokemon Honestly, I think this is an excellent game. I think this actually captures the subject matter better even than LOTR TCG or MECCG, and that’s saying something. I haven’t played in a while, but when I did, I was one of the best in my group.
Austin Powers CCG I saw this on Decipher’s site and read up on the rules and cards. That’s about the limit of my knowledge of it.
Wizard in Training I liked it, but my interest faded fairly soon, for some reason. Played a few games, but not much.
Dragonball Z CCG A good game, solid in itself, but the power level difference between sets was one of the main issues that kept me from keeping up with it longer. Very limited knowledge. (Might be the TCG...)
Digimon Digi-Battle Card Game I liked it, but I think we played that your digimon keeps its level when you reshuffle your deck. Fairly thorough knowledge.
Lord of the Rings TCG Good game... fairly thorough knowledge, enhanced by DC Making. I stopped getting new cards soon after Shadows, as the last store selling them stopped putting the cards out.
Harry Potter TCG Not bad, although I think I had just a starter deck and that’s it. Limited knowledge on the game.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer CCG I’ve never played it, but I think I could pull it off if I had the cards (real or virtual).
Bionicle TCG Very simple, but pretty good considering. I also had not heard of Bionicle for a while after, so I have no clue how I got the cards...
Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG I’ve played it a few times with a fan of it, and I think there are some ideas that are salvagable from it. It’s not bad, but seems somewhat arbitrary. The strengths seem needlessly high. While I have played, I have actually not read the rules. Maybe I have, but it didn’t really help.
Star Wars TCG (WotC) I haven’t played with another person, but I’ve built a few decks and read the rules. It’s a good game, and I like the idea of being able to switch the character’s type, but something’s keeping it from being a great game, and I’m not quite sure what.
Simpsons TCG Haven’t played it, but I’ve read the rules, and with a quick review, could play it with other people.
Beyblade TCG Learned enough of the rules to play, and have tryed it out. Not bad, but not that good.
VS System Know it pretty well, not quite at LOTR TCG levels, but decent. Playing-wise, I’ve been beaten by someone that I was teaching for the first time. Having made both decks myself.
Hecatomb Very limited knowledge, but have read the rules and worked with the cards somewhat.
World of Warcraft Built a couple decks, and read the rules, but that’s about my limit.
I’m sure there are others that I’m missing, but I used wikipedia’s list of collectible card games to remind myself of the names... |

Yeah, I just pick up on card game rules pretty quickly.
For the most part, it was with my LOTR group, to try out games the others had found.
Others were just found while surfing online... I’ve been trying to put together a card game of my own and learning others to see what methods are being used (specific card resources like magic, harry potter, and pokemon, general card resources like VS, in game resources like LOTR) or how similar abilities transfer (like double strike/fierce, quick fights as LOTR/MECCG or longer as DBZ/YGO, single fights like VS/LOTR or multiple like MTG/MECCG...) and just various things on how they interact.
I remembered a few others:
Megaman About the same as Beyblade - tried it out and wasn’t bad. Not great either.
Munchkin A bit different from the others, but definitely an interesting game. Not a whole lot of strategy involved, though.
There’s also card games in video games, like Monster Rancher Battle Card and Digimon World 3 which I find fun as well... |

Lets think... my first trading card game was Pokemon. That was a good game. Well, fairly good, at least... I wonder what It’d be like now, if I whipped out my old cards and tried to play.
Star Wars CCG: Or TCG. I forget which it *technically* was. Amazing game, most complex one I ever learned. I hate that they stopped making it...
LotR: Obviously the best card game ever made. Or second best. At least. I may not be a tournament-level player, but I’ve never tried to be.
Yu-gi-oh: I don’t hate it as much as you all do. I’ve stopped playing, but I really enjoyed it back in the day. From my point of view, though, the game has gotten worse since its start. There are like, two specific kind of decks that actually get new cards anymore. It’s like, "You play this deck or you lose"-type situation... I liked it a lot more back in the first few sets... *sigh*
MTG: Great game. Amazing. I can’t say much else. I’ve only just started playing, but... |
