So even though most of you guys are republican, I want to get some discussions going so I can be up to date on every candidate. I want to be more informed and have some discussions about this.
I watched about 45 minutes of the debate last night (got home from work late) and I must say I had mixed feelings. But I will say one thing: Gravel has my vote already.
Now some of you guys might flame me for that but this man is fantastic. He is an angry old man with a lot of problems with the way things are and the way things have been. He is not afraid to speak his mind, call people out, joke around, and tell the truth. Unlike Hilary, Edwards, and Obama, Gravel (and Kucinich for that matter) was not fake. I really appreciate his standings on certain issues and I like pretty much everything about him.
We, especially in this time, living in a great country with a sneaky government hiding things from us, needs a president how is honest and is not afraid to call people out. Gravel is saying exactly how he feels, he is not cattering to anyone and saying what people want him to say, he is saying exactly how it is and exactly how he feels. I feel he will be the best thing for us just because of his history, the issues that are at hand right now, the corruption and lies, etc, etc. Not to mention he has experience in life. I watched a thing about health care and he said something along the lines of "i know the system, I get my meds from the va and I get the rest from the medacare. So I know the system up front and personal and I don’t have to tell you about some person I met in Iowa who’s crying on my shoulder". He got hit hard with health care cuts and claims to have spent 150-180 thousand dollars a year, which caused him to go bankrupt. So he knows the effect our poor health care has on our elders and many other citizens. Older citizens in this country are in need of the health care more then anyone else on average. Bush said something along these lines "The senior citizens of this country have the highest chance of death". They don’t get paid much every month, but most of what they make is put right into medication and it’s rather sad to see older people paying hundreds of dollars on meds. Meanwhile, the 19 year-old-girl in front of her, with 2 kids and pregnant with another, gets it pretty much paid for. It’s horrible!

you can find the video on youtube if you search for mike gravel health care (or something of that sort).
SO to sum it up, I believe the two best candidates for the Democrats are Gravel and Kucinich (in that order). I am now on the anti Obama and Clinton wagon... we have two great people who aren’t afraid to raise the issues and answer questions rather then dancing around the answers with a nice smile, sucking up to god knows who.
Obama was asked once "what have you done, personally, to help the environment" and his answer was that he organized a group of people to plant trees... he organized OTHER PEOPLE to plant trees... first of all, he didn’t do anything for the environment, personally... what an idiot. There was another question that was asked in which he avoided... didn’t answer the question... just sort of went off on a tangent about another topic.
Edwards... oh man... i dont know what his problem was... I guess he decided he was going to take the moderate stance... talking about his family and god, etc, etc... what a douche.
But gravel, he answered every question and called several people out on their responses and I admire that greatly. He’s got my vote... and if his name isn’t on the ballot... I’ll do a write in... no micky mouse, this time. |

Well you got one thing right, Obama is bad. I hope Hillary makes it to the general, cause she can’t win.
Unfortunately, Obama will probably win the nomination, meaning that the Republicans will have a tough race. Of course, if Giuliani gets the Republican nomination, we’re in big trouble. I don’t think I would vote for that RINO. |

Wow... see, now thats the exact kind of sadness I have been talking about. Your hoping for a bad candidate to get nominated just so your republicans can win? Wow... ok... so away with who is better for our country. Away with trying to solve our problems. Away with everything... just as long as a republican wins...
thanks... we need more people like you, your truly a product of greatness and your really looking out for the best interest of everyone. America thanks you....

Gravel...who??? Seriously, he’s gonna have trouble, since nobody talks about anyone but Obama and Hillary...either of whom would be terrible candidates. I hadn’t even heard about him.
Out of all the Democrats, I’d most like to see Edwards out there, despite his uneven stances on issues such as life.
NBarden, you’re thinking like the RNC chair now... |

Nice shot physcosick.
Anyway I personally would consider myself a constitutionalist someone who believes that we should return to a smaller federal government that only takes care of defense, laws to protect it citizens, and roads, ALL of which are things that the Federal government is supposed to do. NO more no less.
And things like Abortion and Gay rights should be STATE issues NOT Federal issues or Judicial issues.
Now I know that is unrealistic so here is my opinion on the current roster of candidates.
What we need are ideas, and frankly Obama, Clinton, Guiliani, Edwards and McCain seem to be a lot more about appearance then actual substance. Sure they look great on TV and make nice sound bytes, but this country needs a leader, someone with ideas, not a someone who looks good or sounds good. SO who fits this category? On the democrats side, Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel, and Bill Richardson seem to fit the bill.
The Republicans have Tommy Thompson, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, (who is really a libertarian).
Here are two wikis which have a large overview of the fields of candidates.

Thats my problem with it. I don’t hate government... but I despise politicians. Gravel is not your normal politician. He doesn’t care much about looking good, saying what other people want you to say, dancing around questions, smiling, kissing babies, shaking hands, all that boring jazz. It’s so fake.
Fake people = bad presidents
Gravel for 2008
i hope some day soon people realize that obama and hilary will be bad for our country, |

Indeed. Unfortunately, except for a few rare cases, fake people = elected presidents.

By that I mean, of course, putting Gravel on the ballet... I want to see Gravel on it, not Clinton or Obama.
I haven’t really gotten a hang of the republicans yet... we’ll see if there is any I like... but so far, I think gravel would be the best thing for america. |

You missed my rant on Giuliani, didn’t you? He’s a republican. Personally, I think that Zel Miller (a Democrat) would be better that Giuliani or McCain (Republicans).
Republicans tend to believe in the sanctity of human life, sanctity of marriage, and a constitutional right to bear arms. If your a democrat and believe that, then we get into terrorism, and then fiscal issues, but I’m open to considering voting for you. (Or I would, if I was 18 )
Fred Thompson and Sam Brownback would both be good, strong conservative candidates. Brownback doesn’t have the best fiscal record, but he’s sound on the moral issues.
Giuliani, on the other hand is pro-death (sorry to offend, but I refuse to say pro-choice, because there usually is no choice for the mother and never a choice for the child, and it is a child), pro-gay marriage, and anti-gun. Might as well have a typical democrat.
After the social issues comes Iraq and the war on terror, and although I agree with Bush, I think he’s to light handed. The quickest way to get this over with is an all out invasion, just completely shut down all the civil wars and insurgencies and turn the government to the Iraqis. But we can’t just withdraw, we have to accomplish our purpose there, for our sake as much as the Iraqis.
Then come the fiscal issues. I don’t really care that much about these, but I do think that we need to cut income tax and go for a national sales tax.
I don’t care if your democrat or republican, if you match up to my requirements for president, you have my vote. The thing is, most Democrats DON’T. Sorry I jumped my gun about my conclusion on Gravel, but I just assumed he’s a typical democrat.
