Harry Potter is dwarfed by LotR

I think it is a bit silly to compare LOTR and Harry Potter. Other than the fact that they both have fantasy elements they are almost completely different in every way. I happen to love them both. I love the world of LOTR and Harry Potter. LOTR is a book that i like to read slowly taking in every detail over several months whereas I devour Harry Potter books. I usually find that I cannot stop once I start. Last night I started reading at midnight and had originally intended to read for one or two hours and finish the book today but in the end I read all the way through the night and finished at about nine this morning.

Anyway instead of trying to compare to two books which are not in any way suitable to being compared to each other lets talk about the book itself. For any of you who do not want to be spoilered I will try to keep this spoiler free although some might slip out.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will go down as the best in the series without a doubt. Everything that has been set up through the series is concluded here. Most of the characters in the series make appearences but not in stupid cameo ways which have no point but are very well woven into the plot. We see the return of Umbridge, the DA, the Centaurs, the Spiders in the Forest, the Hogwarts ghosts, the Chamber of Secrets, Grawp, Dobby, kreacher and others. The Deaths in the book are very well done. There are enough of them to make the wizard war seem far more real and yet not so much that it feels like they are for shock value only. Most of the Deaths have a very good reason and are believable. The story shows none of the slowness in it’s middle section which marred the fifth and sixth books. It is a rollercoaster ride which keeps the reader on it’s toes never giving mea breather. There were points when I actually felt terror, far more than in previous books, which is supported by a much smaller amount of humour than the rest of the series but this is how it should be given the subject matter. However there are some lighter moments but they are more touching and warm than humurous. The ending is exactly how I wanted it. I can honestly say that I would not change a word of the last four or five chapters. All the questions surrounding Dumbeldore, Snape, Harry and Voldemorte are revealed as well as some brand new mysteries popping up along the way such as the Deathly Hallows which have been the object of a huge amount of speculation. Lastly I would say that this is an extremely adult book. While children will probably still enjoy it it’s best audience is probably the age that Harry is in the book, late teens. I read the first book when i was 10 years old, the fifth came out when I was 15 and the sixth when I was 16. I am now 18 which is the age Harry is about to become at the end of the book. I have grown up with harry and can say that i am extremely happy with his closing chapter.

I finished the book today (got it done in about a 24 hour period) and it was pretty awesome. Turns out, a lot of speculations were true, and yet a lot were blown out of the water...

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz
