Apologies in advance - this discussion has completely set me off, and my response is probably going to come off as somewhat personal to some of you. Rest assured I don’t have a problem with any specific person or persons on this board, merely what they choose as a basis for their opinion.
Begin Rant.
This is EXACTLY one of the biggest problems I have with most Republicans - every time we try talking about a political issue or candidate, they back up their position with Bible quotes, God this, and Jesus that. STOP IT already - we all GET that you’re a conservative christian republican afraid of change and progressive ideas that have the potential to benefit all of humanity rather than the elite few ("let’s forget about the potential of alternative energies and focus on how we can find more oil in the US, regardless of the ecological consequences") and that you’d much rather just try to have a religious discussion about how Christianity is the best thing ever than actually discuss the REAL political issues and how they might affect the world because you know you’d lose in a heartbeat if you were forced to leave religion out of the equation.
/rant...for now. |

Well...I guess I’ll throw my two cents in. Sorry, hawkeyespf, but if you’re debating with Christians, they’re gonna bring up Scripture. Also, this isn’t a political discussion, its a discussion of leadership roles.
FYI, I am not chauvanistic, sexist or anything, but men and woman have two distinct roles. God did not put man over woman, that’s a very extreme interpretation of Scripture. Men and woman are equal, but God, however, designed man to be the leader.
But...also, if you look at Judges in Scripture, you also see that Deborah was leader of Israel by appointment of God. This was during a time period in which the men weren’t leading like God intended. So, when men don’t do their job, the women have a right to step up.
So, to summize, leading is the job of men, and the women are only to take
that position if the men shirk it.
Also, hawkeyespf, I would GLADLY debate you on your post, but for the sake of staying on-topic, I’ll make a new topic. |

In that case, Hillary’s a shoe-in - look at W’s approval ratings and tell me he’s not shirking his role as leader of the free world.
Let’s do this, you tell me why Hillary (or any other competent woman on this planet) should not be President without using anything even close to religious as a reason (how many Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Atheist, etc...people are going to respect an argument backed only by a book they do not believe in?) and then we’ll have a starting point for the debate you wish to have. Until then, all you do is chase your own tail and sound like an sexist pig. I’m not saying you are, I’m saying that’s how you come off when talking at a person who sees the world from a scientific point of view. |

| So SPF, are you saying that men and women are identical? That they can and should do the exact same things? That a woman can do the same things that a man can (and should) do to the same level as a man can and vice versa? That is what a lot of people with a "scientific point of view" would say so that they don’t sound like a "sexist pig". Be careful with what you say and how you say it. My words earlier were very carefully chosen. You should make sure you do the same to say what you mean and mean what you say. |

Why can’t a woman have the opportunity? Why should they be denied access to certain things, based on a book? THAT is what I mean. Certainly not every woman has the capability to do every job a man can do, and vice versa, and I think that antiquated views need to be updated - I mean, world governments like ours are now in the initial planning stages of a manned mission to Mars, for crying out loud. We are about to really step away from our world, explore our little area of the universe, and we are afraid to let a woman run things because of a book.
Some women are capable of incredible things, just as some men are. Some women can’t even speak an entire sentence without sounding like an idiot, just like some presidents. |

I take issue with this. In what way exactly is the President of America the leader of the free world? |

I take issue with this. In what way exactly is the President of America the leader of the free world?
I apologize Turin - I do not mean to say that whoever leads America leads the world, certainly not the way he has run things the last 7 years. In all honesty though, **in general** the president of the united states does wield great influence over the policies of other countries. W has greatly diminished this ability through his inclination to not listen to reason and logic as he invades sovieregn nations because he believes it is "the right thing to do" even as there is a lack of evidence to support him.
Bottom Line:
I believe the general population of the world (and each individual nation) to be good people who would not do ill to another without cause; we all share common goals and dreams. That said, the United States was in the past the most techologically, medically advanced country in the world. At that time, the phrase "leader of the free world" emerged and (right or wrong) has continued being used, even today when there are more than a couple countries who have passed the US in areas of education, technology, and medicine to name a few.
The US has lost its edge, and its leaders have lost their sanity as they try to do anything to prove that we haven’t. |
