Americans call it gelatin or Jell-o (after the name brand).
My (American) grandmother always told me that there was a difference between jam and jelly, but I could never tell which was which. I always seemed to get it wrong at the breakfast table.
But I can definitely tell the difference between gelatin and jelly. So at least I’m not a completely lost case. |

| Jam has whole, slightly crushed, softened and sweetened fruit in it. It sticks together because of the natural fruit sugars as well as the added sugar. Jelly is basically fruit juice that is held together with gelatin or pectin. |
