Yes, the fetus is alive. But, however, CG’s point that "it wants to be born" is not valid, since it still doesn’t have a will to WANT anything. And my point about putting lives at the same level is to actually endorse my view of abortion, I’m no member of PETA or Greenpeace (my sis is a Biologist, though, and she made is host her party without using plastic glasses... does that count? Think ), I eat meat (and LOVE it, you guys HAVE to try my typical ribs grill one day), and I think it IS ok to kill animals as long as it’s for a good reason (or a VERY good reason if they’re an endangered species).
However, I have learned some valuable info that gives me further insight into the discussion, for instance, I didn’t know abortion was legal in the US, I thought only a few States allowed it. Homage
And of course CG is right about his point, it’s not the medieval era again, that’s why I enforced as much as possible that pregnancy is not risky per say, but ANYTHING that gets you inside an OR DOES pose a life threat. My main point about this part was that you take the risk that you CHOOSE to.
And I bow to EL for his argument about the building on fire, as well. Homage Geniously put. Think
But then again, if the same building held you dying grandmother and a child, and you had NO time to think about it and no one you could talk to, chances are you’d still save your grandma, wouldn’t ya? Wink

My answer to that type of question is this:

I’d die trying to save them both.

Which isn’t realy a valid answer to a rhetorical question like that, but anyway... Laughing

I read it in a book somewhere. I thought it was a fairly nice response... Very Happy

Lawyer response, you mean! Wink
Ok, rephrase. After saving one, the building collapses, so there’s no way you can gat back in there. Sure, you CAN search the wreckage after, but we all know you won’t find much...

To be honest, I really couldn’t be sure which one I’d go after. If I really didn’t have time to think, my body might just... move. One way or the other, who know’s how I’d react?

Again, insufficient response to a rhetorical question, but... in truth, I really don’t know which one I’d try to save.

The legality is debatable since the "law" is really a declaration of the Supreme Court which has NO authority to order such a thing, however, they did it anyway and the rest of government let them, thus making it the "law" while not being a law. Under the Tenth Ammendment to the constitution, the ruling was unconstitutional, but surprise, surprise, the only entity which can declare the ruling unconstitutional is the Supreme Court itself. Kinda like the STF ’round here, not much better. Actually, worse, since we have 11 Supreme Ministers on it, but they’re all appointed by the President himself (and stay there until they die or turn 70 and have to retire), with NO OTHER criteria. So, although it has never happened, the President COULD basically nominate their High-school teacher to the position... Weird, huh? That’s the only Law institution that has no requirements, but it’s the top one. Certain things only happen in Brazil, fella.

1. I choose to save the person who can contribute the most to society and save the child.
2. I save the person who means the most to me. (grandma)
3. I try to save both and die.

one of the things i have against abortion is where it can lead. If I can kill a 6 month old unborn who I don’t like, why can’t I kill a 6 month old child of mine who I don’t like? or a 6 year old? or a 16 year old? or a 60 year old? why don’t we just kill anyone who can’t contribute to society?

you are handicapped. tough. too old? tough.

yeah thats a little extreme...but I just don’t see where it would end.

But you miss out on the fact that a fetus CAN be biologically compared to a parasite, and a newborn or old person can’t (biologically, mind you... Laughing no examples needed). It can’t lead to it, ’cause it’s not the same thing.
