LOL! Great response!
I knew you were joking which is why I didn’t do anything to the post. That is great! You really made my day since it is incredibly slow at work today. |

Furtheromore, no timetable was enacted to accomplish the affirmative’s plan, and even if there was, the affirmative feels that it adequately fulfilled, but as the point is inconsequential in nature, the affirmative concedes it to the negative. Thank you, and I now stand open for cross-examination. |

M_H, OF COURSE the parachuter can’t sue, it falls exactly under my example, it’s a risk he WILLINGLY took! If he was suddenly pushed from an airplane, though... Kidding. Even though, he could sue the pusher, not the company. |

And os is choosing to abort later, rather than carrying through with pregnancy. |

So now that we’ve resolved that issue, let’s look at abortion itself. Right now, we’re debating if abortion is a right that the person has. NOT under law, but morally, ethically, and whatever standard for what is right or what is wrong.
First of all, F_M, what is your standard of right and wrong? What defines morality for you? |

That’s a tricky question. I don’t think anyone can fully answer it. In fact, there’s a Constitutional Principle in Brazil called "Morality", and so far, the best definition any teacher has been able to give for it (they just mention it exists in the Constitution) is: "No one can say what it is, but everyone knows when someone is not following it". Go figure.
So, as far as I can go with your question, I’d say: "Yes, for me, it’s moral to abort (of course, under strict rules, as I’m not in favor of banalizing pregnancy and sex, plus it onerates the State a lot more than necessary just for people being careless), until a certain point of pregnancy, of course, although it’s NOT moral to kill an already-born person." What can I say? I can’t simply "forget" legal issues (since morals DO influence laws and such, wether you like it or not), so I simply can’t see it as being the same thing. It’s different for me, for all the reasons I already posted (more than twice, actually ), not "just because the law treats it differently". Thing is, I don’t think killing and aborting are different because the law says so, I believe the law says so because they are different things. |

So basically, your standard is derived from your personal beliefs and your opinions, not from any authoritative source.
This is very intertwined with the abortion debate. My belief on morals comes from Scripture, and thus my worldview reflects that. But, as far as I can see, if you’re standard of morality comes from your opinions, I’m not sure how we can debate the ethics of abortion.
We’ll start with this.
Murder is morally wrong.
Abortion is murder.
Therefore abortion is morally wrong.
To put it into a syllogism form. You may not agree with it, but let’s start with the assumption that murder is wrong. I’m sure you’ll agree with that, so IF I can prove that abortion IS murder, you will be forced to agree that abortion is wrong. Correct? |

In a logical sense. However, since the Supreme Court of both our countries has declared it to be different, I doubt you can prove it to me. You see, logical conclusions, such as "it’s taking someone’s life" and such won’t do, after all, as I said, I do not agree they’re describing the same conducts. But, for the sake of it, sure, go ahead.
But I guess we DID hit a crucial point, which is exactly this:
I DO believe morals are SET, not GIVEN, so yeah, my sense of moral derives from certain beliefs of mine which can differ from yours, since they come from experience and studying (of a whole subject), rather than just studying (of a single code - ok, one wahle of a code, but still just one, with only one point of view). |
