Define murder as you use as a common definition. With NOTHING referring to the law. Like, the unlawful taking of someone’s life. Because we are not debating the law, we are debating morals and ethics.

And I’ve studied other codes, but believe the Bible is the ONLY code that completely and authoritatively has the power to define right and wrong.

Okay, here’s my definition of something that IS murder.

The pre-meditated taking of human life without provocation.

Under this definition, ANY pre-meditated killing without provocation would be considered murder. This definition is not exhaustive, but an instance that is actually murder.

I would still be interested in hearing your definition.

Here we go... Definitions Wars.

What would you consider provocation?

Definition wars are something only an NCFCA-er can truly appreciate, right AD?

Oh well. They’re necessary.

Let me try to define it in english terms...

"The taking of human life, from a fully formed or far developed human being"

See, I don’t see it as having to be premeditate, nor as having to be without provocation. I also see SOME forms of abortion (when the baby is fully formed, or already has the notocord, which means it can feel pain already) as murder, as I said before.

That’s just editing your definition of murder to allow for abortion.

It’s an opinion of how murder ought to be defined, really. If we try to look for a "universal" definition, we can’t find one, because we either:

A) Turn to the law, which is different in many places, or:
B) Turn to religion, which is different between many people.

So taking a life is justified if its not painful to the person in question?

We’re not getting anywhere. Let’s try a different tack.

Is it right to deprive an individual of the right to live?

I’d go farther. Is it right to deprive an individual of their right to live, including their own health and welfare?

...That won’t get anywhere either NB, because (if I understand correctly) F_M has already indicated that he doesn’t believe the unborn in question (at an early stage, at any rate) to constitute an individual.

THANK YOU! Homage
Thing is, I believe we reached a stalemate in which no one’s gonna be able to make any progress, but I also think we’ve got some pretty solid points for b oth sides here, PLUS NBardens last page’s post is proof that we DID reach SOME conclusion on the subject, so I’d still call this one a success and leave it as it is. So, let’s discuss homoaffective unions now, shall we? Wink Nah, just kidding, if you want to reach me, I’ll be at the hunting thread! Very Happy

Seems true, but I have to try, if even only for the benefit of those monitoring the debate.
