Not exactly. I just log on in the morning when I get there and then check periodically throughout the day to make sure that I’m not being attacked or anything...

And bungle it badly. They take 64 bit and make an OS crammed with every feature you can possibly not need, and then they make it run in the background! All that extra memory access gets sucked up by useless programs that Vista needs to operate while simultaneously locking up your computer and making you pound your head against the wall! Not to mention that 4GB is the MOST memory you can access, most computers don’t include that much memory with it.

Where’s the sledgehammer?!?!?!?

Combine that with the new Internet Explorer which appears to be in stage beta, if not alpha, bu is supposedly complete, although just about anytime you run to many tabs or try to allow pop-ups, it gives error messages until your reboot your computer if not locking up your computer so you can’t do anything except manually terminate the process by Windows Task Manager.

But wait! There’s more! Instead of directly accessing the task manager and setting it at realtime priority like XP does, it takes you to another screen that takes forever to load (because remember, IExplorer locked up the computer). Pop a bag of popcorn, and sit and watch the hourglass turn.

Oh, now you have to LINK to the task manager. Okay. Click link, finish eating the bag of popcorn and make yourself a sandwich.

Oh, that’s why! Your hourly scheduled HP system monitor AND Norton Antivirus scan suddenly decided to pop up simultaneously, and they BOTH need your permission to continue.

Allow them to continue, finish the sandwhich, and make something else to eat.

Finally it loads, reboot computer, and repeat procedure.

Hence, the thread name.

However, I’m now on the XP computer with Mozilla at the college I’m taking classes at. WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you seriously expect anything better from Microsoft? Their applications are known to be memory hogs and leak memory like crazy. If you would like a more stable 64-bit OS, go with SUSE Linux or something like that! The biggest problem with Vista is that it does have a lot of unnecessary eye-candy that most consumers don’t need or even really want, which is why it hasn’t been selling all that well. Heck, because of consumer demand for XP, Dell started re-offering it as an option earlier this year somewhat against MS’s wishes!

No most computers don’t include 4GB, but in the server space it isn’t all that uncommon to require 16GB or more which isn’t possible with a 32-bit CPU.

I don’t think you can buy them any more. Those were AMD’s first revision Opteron Parts But seriously, I wouldn’t run Vista on any system with less than 2GB of non-shared RAM (meaning you must have a discrete graphics card) and it would probably operate smoothest on a system with at least 4GB of RAM. Personally I prefer the stability of XP, especially since there isn’t much software out there that can take advantage of a 64-bit OS at this point.

Sledgehammer: a large heavy hammer that is wielded with both hands [commonly used to pummel locked-up computers to bits (meaning little tiny fragments of computer chips and plastic, not pieces of data)].

I hate ie it crashes all the time. What is firefox, only about 5 megs to download? I really should try it.

As for Vista, it will run well on just 2BG Dual channel 667 MHz RAM. The reason most people have a problem with vista sucking up power is that they don’t have an advanced enough video card to run all of the eye-candy.
